I've been experimenting lately with the effects of different types of alcohol
Purely in a scientific manner.
Trying to decide which will be my xmas spirit.
So what's your poison?

I've only ever had Gin once before.
I'll need someone to give me a proper introduction. LOL
Reminds me of Restaurant at the End of the Universe , every planet with intelligent life has developed a drink called Gin and Tonic.

Almost, but not quite, exactly like Drambui.

1. Jameson's Irish Whiskey (can't beat that extra distillation stage)
2. Ballantine's Scotch (nicest of the cheaper blended scotches)
3. Chivas Regal. Cheers and bottoms up!

On hot days, nothing like beer during the day (esp with pizza. Nothing better with pizza then beer) and scotch on ice during the evenings. On temperate days and nights, red wine with my lover talking to the wee hours on just about everything. We've solved alot of the world's problems that way.
I have always been curious about the question I'm about to ask. Jeanette, I hope you don't mind me asking it. The first time I over indulged (in my late teens) was on brandy. Since then I have never been able to face the stuff and if I get close, it smells like throw up to me (sorry about the graphics). Have others had a similar experiance with their first overindulged alcohol.

Yeuch!! :P
Chivas Regal is about the only blended whisky i will drink, Irish whiskey is nice, but its very "bland" i find, although certainly smooth, and as for Ballantines, i wouldnt use that for cleaning my toilet!
i have several whisky's that i am sipping at present (not at the same time!)
Glenmorangie 12YO in Madiera Wood finish, very nice and smooth, the madiera wood gives it an almost sweet quality
Glenfiddich 18YO, while Glenfiddich is the cheapest of the good malts, the 18YO is much smoother on the palate.
Laphroig , lovely whisky, strongest tasting of all the Islay malts, very nice after cheese and crackers.
Balvenie , Lovely almost sweet whisky, yum!

Jack Daniels for me, on ice or with Coke or pre-mixed, although I usually only have the pre-mixed version when I'm away camping....something about ice cold cans out of the esky that simply cannot be beaten.
As for beers, I'm a big fan of James Boags Premium Lager and Cascade Premium Lager, gotta love that pure Tasmanian water.

Rum & Bourbon usually in the evenings.

I did some scientific testing last night and am subsequently not at work today.. :S I may have pushed the envelope..
Big tequila/mezcal drinker. normally Petrone or Jose Curevo - Por mi familia..
Like my Bourbon, provided its a really nice bourbon served neat.. Jack daniels single barrel is the way to go..
That said, after last night, I'm never drinking again... 4pts of beer, followed by a half glass of tequila straight up, chased down by 2 bottles of Shiraz.... Followed by re-experiencing all those drinks in reverse order quite a few times during the night...
Still haven't quite managed to eat anything today...

I had a similar epiphany when I was a chef in Airlie Beach a normal Thursday night at what was then the village resort was first the Beer Stein sculling comp 4 rounds and I was the anchor so I sometimes had to make up time and then the prize was a bucket of Rum and Coke then started the arm wrestling comp I most of the time I won that to and guess what the prize was for that second prize was champs called tiny bubbles basically tasted like vinegar with a kick. After a few years of that I decided that I would drastically decrease my intake although I am partial to Galway Pipe Port.

Ahhhhh... Coopers Vintage for me :-)
Did you hear about the alcoholic who went to the doctor?
The doctor sat him down and said "I want to show you something."
He then got two glasses and put water in one and whiskey in the other, then put an earth worm into each glass. After a few minutes the worm in the water was swimming around quite happily and the one in the whiskey was dead and all shrivelled up.
The doctor said "See that? What does that tell you?"
The alcoholic studied both glasses carefully and then said ...
"If you drink whiskey, you won't have worms!"

Yes, my son wrote himself off with Bourbon on his 18th, and was very sick. Ever since he says he cannot face it with feeling ill immediately.
He drinks light beer now. I thought that was not a bad way to find out, given he had us around.
I got spiked with vodka at my 21st by 2 mates (who were both police at the time). Never been fond of it since, although I am fond of everything else in a bottle ;)
I voted other, I think a good soft white wine is lovely on occasion.

Jack Danials for me. Seventeen years old. Drank a litre bottle in 3 hours. Had to be taken to casualty. Missed scoring with a girl I'd had a crush on for years.
Can't face the stuff. Its 'orrible.
BTW. Those tablets you can't buy for a cold, the one's made with pseudo-ephedrine? Pop one before retiring. No more hangover!:D Seriously!

Yep... I can not even look at a bottle of black sambucca any more.. when i was 17 I went a little silly on the stuff... 1125ml in one session (lasting all of 2 hours) I was fine for about 10 minutes after I finished the bottle... Following that I started throwing up continuously, ended up in casualty.. 3 days off school... Really really unwise...
I cant look at the stuff, smell it, smell anything that has even a hint of aniseed in it... I lose my stomach REALLY fast...

Hey Geoff
I thought I was the only one outside of italy that had the occasional limoncelo (I think some would say its an acquired taste). You ever indulge in some of the buffolo cheese and other produce from that area?
FredSnerd
07-12-2009, 06:10 PM
When I was a young lad in western sydney the thing the ladies would always bring along to the Friday night party was a bottle of Cold Duck. Do they still make that stuff. I must go buy some and see if it still tastes as I remember it. Ahh they were the days.
The first time I went on a date with my wife (now of 30 years), we were at a restaurant and I ordered a bottle of Ben Ean Moselle. She thought I was such a man of the world that I could just rattle the name off the tongue like that.

No, I haven't, but I will investigate that.
We met Limoncelo in Amalfi, watched it being made through the window in that place in Capri where you can buy various liquors in bulk from big stainless steel tanks, and I then loaded my Customs allowance to the hilt in Sorrento at a grocery place across the road from the railing overlooking the gorge.

second that, admittedly only a handful of times a year (mostly summer late evening) i would drink a single nice cointreau with schweppes lemonade/ice in a large frosty martini glass, topped with a refreshing slice of lime, but i really enjoy those occasions, moderation rocks!
i have been thru so many fads, like most people, hard to say any one thing, have had very long periods of times in life when completely stopped drinking, nil by mouth, and not one drop of demon drink did pass my lips - coopers pale ale is an enduring staple these days i would have to admit, purely for sanity management
...but mostly i sup from the intoxicating silvery frosted dew drops that fall from the wheeling dazzling firmament, with mine eyes :D

Hi All & jjj, :)
Bourban, scotch and cognac for me. Only top shelf. I have been given for no reason, a bottle of Godet cognac. The bottle is shaped like Napoleon.
Also a bottle of Two Worms Tequila. Yes it does have two worms in it.:scared2:
Add to that a bottle of Champagne Cognac and a Chivas Regal.:drink:
The woman who gave some of the above to me has a bottle of Snake Whiskey. It does have a rattler ( whole snake ) in the bottle. 70 - 80 cms long.:eyepop:
I'll add some top bourban to my list for christmas. Perhaps a dozen or so fine wines but they don't count.
