Dennis

Hello,

Here is a 2 pane mosaic of the moon taken through the Tak Mewlon 180 with the Canon 40D. I have processed it quite heavily for the detail and a slight colour saturation.

Hope you like!:)

Cheers

Whoa Dennis. Brilliant shot. My main interest is always the Moon - it's the most detailed object we can see by far I reckon.

Greg Bryant from AS&T has asked me for my moon shot that I did with my Tak MT-160 a while back for the next issue. I'm going to suggest that he uses yours.

Thanks guys, like Chris (Omaroo), the Moon is one of my favourite objects – always welcoming and so forgiving of poor seeing when captured at the prime focus.

This was a rework from a session in Oct and I got the image looking as sharp and natural as possible in CS4 and then used the Topaz Labs (http://www.topazlabs.com/)Plug-in, “Topaz Detail” which boosted the micro contrast without introducing noise or sharpening artifacts. This made a HUGE difference - I like this Plug-in very much!

I ran the Plug-in on a separate Layer and then blended it in as Luminosity at 50%.

Cheers

Hi Chris

Download “Topaz Detail (http://www.topazlabs.com/downloads/index.php)” as a 30 day free trial and punch your MT-160 Moon (it was a cracker of a shot!) through it and I reckon it would come up just a treat for publication in AS&T!

Cheers Dennis - way ahead of you! LOL! I think that I'll be buying the whole bundle. What a great bunch of plugins!!!! Thanks so much for the heads-up!

I'll give the MT-160 shot a burl, but I still reckon that yours is massively spectacular and deserves to be the one! :D

Yep - I think I like the Topaz plugin Dennis. Here's the MT-160 shot with a very slight tweak in Topaz Detail.

Yeah... you're right Paul. Bad data....

:)

I've tried the Topaz filters (Detail & Denoise) on several deepsky objects of mine and it certainly looks promising...

I agree! The plugin set looks really good. I almost bought it yesterday after Dennis' recommendation in this thread!

That’s just beautiful Chris.

The black space makes it look like I’m on a close approach trajectory, heading for lunar rendezvous on an Apollo mission. I love the smoother tones on this one - in contrast my shot has that photojournalistic look about it. A bit like me – rough and gritty!

The plug in seems to work on the edges and make adjustments at the molecular level. I’ve just been using the default settings so far and blending in the effect on a separate layer.

Using the plug in is almost as good as watching your 1st print gradually come up in the dev tray in the darkroom.:)

Cheers

Thanks Dennis - I luuuuurve the Moon! :)

Sorry to add it to your thread, but I'd like to emphasize the results that the Topaz set that you've introduced to us give. That shot has a slight "Denoise" applied to it as well, which resulted in the lower terminator smoothness. Very impressive.

Only problem with these darn things is that the bar is raised so much furhter each time they're developed! LOL!!

Hi Chris

I’ve just spent the whole of the previous night, ‘til the wee hours of the morning, punching some older (terrestrial) photos through Topaz Adjust and Topaz Detail and where the original’s tones and detail support the actions of the plug-ins, the new output really pops!

Way too much data, a veritable plethora of software tools and sooo many adjustment settings….sigh….will I ever see daylight again!

Cheers

Dennis

PS – no need to apologise, from what I have seen on IIS your posts are always characterised by a professional, courteous and thoughtful manner and add value to the discussions.:)

Dennis,

I am truly amazed at the image and the processing capabilities. I will definitely need to look at the Topaz plugins. To me they give a warmness a natural look and clarity that I have not seen before.

I'm flabergasted.
