Well, beset with bad seeing for the last month, I am getting pretty desperate to post an image.

Last night the seeing was as per normal at 3/10. Was not impressed, but figured it might improve. It didn't. I did test a few things out though, in particular the whole notion of wave fronts showing themselves in my scope as it cooled. I took the cover off just before sunset and it was still showing fronts 2 hours later. I think by 10pm it had finally got near enough to ambient temp. Will definitely get the SCT cooler for the new scope.

Anyway here is a less than satisfactory image of Mars.

Pretty good if you ask me. At least you went to the effort to get something, Well done.

hey rumples

I know you're disappointed with the resulting image but there's a positive to come out it...

At least I was able to confirm the same surface details with the dodgy images I captured last night and make sure they weren't just tricks of the light/seeing!!!!

Hey Rumples - looks pretty good considering the conditions and I know what you mean, I'm getting the imaging DT's from want of good, fair or even ridiculous but possible imaging conditions. Every time I drag the scope outside lured by some sucker holes in the cloud, it whites out just as I'm fitting the first eyepiece - if it doesn't rain on me first. I'm getting seriously peeved with this weather!. Oh well, get it out the way with now before the new scope arrives eh!

cheers,

Don't be too hard on yourself Paul, you did a good job in bad conditions.

I was imaging the same face last night, but yet to finish processing it. Fortunately (for me) it seems I had the better of the conditions though.

Hope you get a cracker night of seeing to get your best Mars this apparition.

Very Good Paul considering the bad conditions mate.
This distiguishes a good imager by his ability to milk out all available detail.
Can't wait to see what you'll pull off with the new scope and Saturn and Juup.

Well done.

:)

I too imaged that night and will post when finished processing.
