Lightning doesn't hit the ground. Postive (ground) goes upwards seeking negatively charged particles. The 2 meet in the air. Good shot though. Is the lightning device expensive?

That's neat. If you don't mind, which one and on what camera?

I can see one brand on ebay for around $US170. They do them for Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Sony.

Did you go and have a look at the ground where it struck!!???? I would have! Was it burnt? Was there any glass? Huh? Huh? Was there?

Hi Phil,

Wow! Such a lucky shot to have the sloping terrain there so you could see it
so clearly! You only have to look at the illumination on the surrounding trees
to appreciate how phenomenally bright it must have been a few meters away from
it. It would be interesting to try and locate the actual spot to see if there is any
sign that it struck.

Wow!! Phil thats outstanding.

well done!

RE 'lighting trigger' could you please explain what that is,

and how it works, how it goes on camera etc.

I figured long ago there must be some such device,

you say you paid $170 for one of ebay, and one from states

is $400,please let us know a few details,i am sure a few

members would be keen for second hand one.

cheers Chris

They are different brands. One mob have theirs for about $us400, another for about $us170. Phil said he had the more reasonably priced one. Search ebay for

Photograph Lightning dcakaiser

and your camera - Canon, Nikon, Pentax or Sony.

My camera is a canon 450D,is that the name of attachment 'dcakaiser'?

$170,does'nt sound to bad a price,i think i would be interested in

one at around that price, more reserch needed.

thanks

dcakaiser are the vendors. There is a link to some images. The price appears to vary a bit according to the camera brand and model.

There are a couple triggers for Canon. You'll have to work out the right one for yours. I tried the search and it wouldn't work. Try:

Find "lightning trigger" in "Remote Controls"

From his reply Phil appears to have this one and seems happy.

Having just bought a set of closeup rings, I think this one can wait.

Took me three goes to get an answer out of him though!

Hey Phil, did you have to go back to ground zero to answer the question mate?? ;) :poke:

Seriously though, I'm surprised there was no mark or any evidence that it struck. I'd be disappointed if I saw something like that hit the ground and found nothing....

Still, great shot mate.

To get to ground zero you have to go over a fence and up a very big hill and crew your way thew scrub. With my neck problem i would be unable to this this. Love to get up there but.

That's understandable mate. Next time i'm over your way, just point me in the right direction and I'll crawl through the scrub for ya! Glass is forever....;)

Speaking of lightning and jumping 9 feet in the air...about 11 years ago, we had a big storm in town and the power was off at work, so we went outside under the awnings at the front of the building to keep cool. Where work was, was on the side of a hill and we were sitting out front next to the street. A lightning bolt about as large as that one came down not much more than 100 metres away up on the side of the hill. Should've seen everyone scatter!!!!:eyepop::eyepop::D:D

Mine arrived today. Now all I need is a storm. Which of course will drive the dog stark staring mad. He's petrified of thunderstorms and fireworks.

It seems so sensitive I suppose it might work for fireworks too.
