Actually if you live under a dark enough skies, where the zodiacal light
is (at times) annoying. Then just a few days after fullmoon you can
sometimes see the moon throw up a zodiacal spike... almost giving the
impression the Earth has a ring. I've seen this effect 2-3 times in the
last 6-7 years.

Cheers,CS

With the rings would more than likely be permament sky glow. Nice to look at in the beginning then would get annoying after a while.

The view from the 00:22 mark shows a substantial ring shadow on the earth.
Would this be similar to a solar eclipse?
Would every location between 23N to 23S experience this every year?

Yeah I thought the same thing. I expected to see some shots from the shadowed area. That would be 4-5 months a year on a cycle like the seasons? And that would also coincide with Winter. Makes for an extra chilly winter. Ski stations in the tropics.

Pretty funky.

For some reason it reminded me of the final scene in that old NZ sci-fi movie "The Final Earth" with the guy standing on the beach.

Wasn't that, "The quiet Earth"? I have been looking for that for AGES! I really liked it's feeling of hopelessness in the end. Moving.

Actually, I have enough frustration with the moon, cloud, dust and smoke without having to worry about a ring-system lighting up my dark skies....grrr.

Gack! You are correct... Where did I get the "final" from?

Yeah, I really enjoyed it too, I had a copy I taped off the tv years ago but it went with the vcr ;)

It would be a blasted nuisance, and would affect life on Earth as we currently know it.
Satellites and even going into Earth orbit would be near impossible to do. Any body perturbing the ring material would shower down on the Earth.
Worst, you could only observe at night when the ring plane was parallel to the line of sight AND if you were near the equator.
The brightness of the rings would kill observing six months of the year.
If the Moon was still there, it would tear the rings apart, or even have a ring in its own right!!

Hi Petra, :)

Interesting views. Earth would have many micro climates as a result of the rings. Snow skiing in the tropics and bananas in Tasmania all possible.

Imagine what the astrologists would concoct with Earth rings.:eyepop:

And as we enter the cusp of Scorpio, its full effect will be somewhat shieded by the 'D' ring. The sting in the tail will not be present. Meaning for you Scorpians out there, you are in for heavy romance. An attractive stranger will affect your lives. So to sweethearts and spouses, may the two never meet.:lol:
