Christmas lights,review

Well it that time of year again!This year i wanted to try and have a more organised approchto those long lengths of christmas lights,i.e not puttin them upfrom a tangled mess of what usually looks like washed up sea weed.!I have been happy with approch so far.To add to our lights we recently purchased some solar powered xmas lightsfrom 'Dick Smith' shop,i was most pleased with them they have 100 LEDson ten metre long string,then another three metres to controller,a littletiny solar panel,which powers up battery,the lights come on automaticallywhen its dark and go off when sun comes up,no messy cords everywhere!no heat build up in contoller box,this set cost $44,well worth it,you can putthem away from house in garden,all weather sealed,you can by 5 metreones for $24,and a set with 180 lights,i dont know how much that set isas it was'nt aval at our electronic shop,check out ours on ourconifer in garden,with JUpiter and moon,last night 15 sec exp iso 800from my dodgy digital camera on tripod,cheers C

Well worth thinking about chris. I have sold a fair few (100's of thousands) sets of christmas lights in my time...

Look for sets that have more than a one year warranty. Obviously you buy before christmas hence your warranty does not cover when you get them out next year.

Alot of the chinese import lines are designed to fail within a year, even for the globes to fade within the month of sun. No one will ever admit that, but IMHO they do use parts which are not adequate to last.

Buy from someone like bunnings that will happily warranty them...
I have been swapping the same 800 piece set for 5 years now no problems... Everytime they fail I take them back...


It is surprising how much money one spends on lights thoughtout their life time.. I am merely 26 and can honestly say I have spent over $2000 on various sets etc... Although I am a bit of a light freak... Hence my screen name. :)

WOW! Lumen,thats a lot on lights,

I have a 3 of those 'regular' type sets,they seem to

be going ok,for the price we paid.

Last year we bought a LED white set,that has box and conects

to power,they are'nt all that long and have different sequences

of flashing,i am really happy with them.

These solar powered ones,so far a also very good,i am not

sure the warranty period,but they are a bit more expensive than

regular 'cheapies'.

I am going to buy a tem metre white light set,and another colured

five metre set,and put them up on roof.

I am sure you will find them in your electronics shops Lumen.

Let me know,how you go Lumen.

But,shh! all this talk on lights on a astronomy site,might not

go down too well! (LOL ;):lol:
