After staring at my recent Tarantula nebula image I came to the conclusion I was not 100% happy with the processing. I changed the blend to 100% on the Ha and Lum.
I like the colour in this version and I think it is smoother.
So tell me what you think, Sidonio time of the month. So I am doing a Sid big fella, tell me what ya think too.

OK seeing I appear to be the appointed master of annoying reprocesses :rolleyes: and I know you like constructive comment Pauli, I'll pass some :D.
After dragging both this image and the previous version into PS and comparing them (as I am sure you have done) I can say the following
1) The latest image is an improvement but there ait that much in it
2) The latest image has slightly more pleasing colour balance in the nebula
3) even though the size of the images presented has changed, overall it appears the fine detail is unchanged, you have marginally increased fine detail in some areas while lossing a tad in others?
4) You have revealed the inner star cluster area slightly better
5) The overall star colours and background have been improved
6) ...You gotta flatten that field :doh:the out of focus edges play tricks with the eye :scared2: and mind :screwy: :lol:
Overall though this is a fantastic image of the Tarantula :thumbsup:

That's a fantastic image Paul. You just now need to research a flattener for your setup.
A Tak one may well work with a bit of luck.

I am with you on the flattener issue. I have an adapter being made by Precise Parts in the US so that my Tak flattener will sit at exactly the correct distance to the sensor of the QSI. I am told by the chaps at Precise Parts that the distance from the flattener to the sensor has to 155.7mm The adapter will take up the short fall that I am missing. That should hopefully rectify the stars issue.
Mike, sometimes everything is about a compromise just for ones own sanity. I agree whole heartedly about your comments on the image. Some of the detail is not at sharp as it was but I had to compromise a little. Maybe with more data I could sharpen every thing.

Sanity..?..:shrug:...:confused2:... :nerd:..:screwy: after a while you will start to see an outline of Jesus Christ in that nebulosity...and you can sell it on Ebay.
Didn't take me long to see Buggs Bunny in mine :P

I love the soft purples and billowing 3D effect on what is really quite a challenging object. Agree with comments about stars at the edge, but my eyes keep getting drawn into that sumptuous centre! :)

I like this repro Paul, soft and subtle colours but great detail right into the cluster in the core.
I think you might have sold me on purchasing one of these little scopes, just constenation about a flattener.

Doug, these OTA's have real potential. I love the image scale this gives to most objects. There are some teething problems but overall for the price the optics are sharp and do give lovely images. Worth investigating.
