Hi everyone

Here's one of our resident nocturnals doing a bit of preening. Its quite hot and so this one has his mouth open and just before this snap had his wings extended right out getting some cooling. He or she is one of about 6, a pair and their prodigy. The young are a year old now and fend for themselves. This one is in the stage of a massive new growth of feathers ( all the new ones can bee seen ) Consequently I have a growing collection of very good condition feathers.

They spend a lot of time in a huge Pepper gum next to this banksia.

Hope you enjoy this little guy saying hi.

Good shot - I'd love to have some owls around our place. They're cool!

Thanks JJJ, Trevor, Stephen and Dave, he does look like he's sh*ting himself eh, but he's not, just sucking in the air. He is watchful but not in the main concerned about anything human or noise wise. I was mowing under him yesterday and he just keeps 1/2 an open on whatever it is making that noise and keeping him from his rest. He is still perched exactly were I took that shot, waiting for his day to arrive tonight .

Collected another 2 feathers since posting, no problem for him he has heaps of new little rolled up black ones coming thru all over him.

I have a shot of the family in the early stages where the chicks were still dependent in my collection somewhere too.

What a comical expression – great shot Jeff! Is that a Tawny Frogmouth?

Cheers
