Hi all,
Tried to get Ha, RGB and OIII images of the SMC on hot SA nights - not a good idea with an uncooled DSLR!
Image that turned out best was the OIII!

Bit of a rough RGB added... you see my hot pixel/DSLR problem in this one - loads of blue and red stars!!

And, heaps obvious heat sensor problems in the synthetic RGB!!

Cheers David - OIII always reminds me somewhat of what you see through the eyepiece, naked eye!

Some interesting formations in there Doug.
'scuse my ignorance, but what is the hexagonal shaped nebulous structure lower left of centre? Hope you get a respite from the heat soon.

I like that OIII image Doug. Keith the hex below NGC 346 is part of NGC 371.

Thanks for enlightening me Glen. It is indeed Heinze 97 (imaged by sjastro here http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=52027 ). Doug's OIII rendition really highlights the hexagonal structure and gives it real depth.
What a wonderful resource this site is and thanks for sharing this great image Doug.

Different Dougie
Different alright :eyepop: however you captured it nicely Doug even if your camera was red hot. :P
Yea I know you want a cooled camera mate, ;) and so do I, that is why I have undertaken to do the job myself, nearly half way through the project as we speak :screwy: :screwy:
Will post some pics of the procedure soon
I'm game.

Good work Doug! color image is coming along nicely.
Ah a nice cool DSLR, I want one too! Has been real hot and smokey the last few days so havn`t bothered to image :( as I know the thermal noise will drive me mad !
Keep us posted Leon! Might do my 20D as they don`t cost too much now if I destroy it!
cheers

The colour image gets my vote. Cooling makes such a diference during these hot spells. Stil very nice with a lot of nice detail.

Thanks all for the comments.
I've been playing around with a LRGB repro which looks a bit more promising.
Hope to post soon
Cheers

The OIII data really brings out the little nebs! Good shootin mate.. Despite the heat, you've come up with a nice image of the SMC..
