View Full Version here: : M42 finished
:D
Finally stacked my last series of pics and layered.
This is made with about 150 images and 7 different exposure lengths.
All done with the Skywatcher ED80 and a modded Canon 40D.
The guidescope is a finderscope with a QHY5 that drives the mount in ST4 mode.
Exposures range from 15 Seconds to 20 Minutes.
All stacked with DSS and processed with CS4.
After a certain amount of pictures there is no gain in making the picture any better.
Will have to use an HA filter next year for this (Looks like M42 will drown in the red dust that surrounds it then).
As always, comments are appreciated (positive AND negative) also tips are welcome.

Beautiful !
Certainly a different rendition Martin. Creative expression at its finest. Nothing like pushing the data to know what its capable of. Colours are electric which sets this apart, but I fear may also be the detriment to the details hidden within. Maybe try toning it down a little to extract the details you've worked so hard to obtain. Keep at it!

Lots of detail Martin but I think you could tone down the colour saturation a little.
Well done Mate.

That is really very nice Martin. As a whole the colors, framing and processing. It's not your usual M42 but it just works. Very smooth. Top work.

One can never tire of M42.
Your rendition of it certainly gives us a different perspective.
Thanks for sharing it with us.

Plenty of detail in there Martin although I tend to be conservative as far as colour goes

im with you on that one trevor, the photo is great but the colours arnt to my taste i like them to be punchy/vibrant and natural. but hey beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

An absolutely great rendition of Mmm 42 shades of red.
Not conventional at all but none the less appealing.
All aspects of the image are spot on.
Thank you everyone for your remarks :)
Looks like i have to do a sidonio with the original data and start over again.

20min subs on a 40D?, and so little noise?, and so deep?. Top work (apart from the colour balance ;-).
