I have used Skype under Windows for a long time. After about 2 years of trying, I have just to-day successfully managed Ubuntu to recognise my Skype phone. I called my brother in Brisbane and found an echo with a 2 second delay. Not Good.
Any suggestions for a solution to this problem?

Ubuntu help line is rather over loaded.

It's possible that there is feedback occurring. You could check to see if your soundcard set up has a "capture" channel. If it does then make sure it is muted asit may be causing the echo.

EDIT: What kind of phone is it? Just so I can see if I can find any info for you.

The phone is a VOIP USB phone

With a USB phone you shouldn't have to play with your MIC/Speaker volumes in the sound card setup. Just make sure in Skype you have selected the usb phone in the options (which you must have already as you're able to use the phone).

Tell me, was it only you that got the echo or both you and your brother? If it was only you then chances are your brother's setup was causing the the echo.

My brother commented on the echo. I noticed the delay in our conversation.
I got the phone working by going into System, Preferences then Sound and making adjustments there.
