I guess most people here wouldn't know that BHP is short for Black Headed Python and Coastal is a type of Carpet Python.

Its funny that. On the other forum if you mention BHP everyone knows what your talking about. The Black-headed python is much bigger now, close to 6ft.

here is a piccy of me in my younger days (wearing akubra) with a lovely little python we found down in Mt Barney Creek gorge. We used to pick them off the rocks early in the mornings when they were sunning themselves. All were returned back to their perches unharmed. I've got a soft spot for pythons.

That BHP is a stunner mate! The black ridge down its back looks sensational.. I'm assuming thats a NT BHP by the colouring, but possibly a QLD..

They are all great looking snakes, though I'm a sucker for aspidites... Do you keep any other snakes? I myself only have a few pythons (M + F NT BHP's, M+F black n gold tiger jungles and a single hypo bredli that I'm looking after for a friend..) and a solitary Inland Taipan.. She's a little crazy, so I don't think I'll mate her. :) Great to know there are other herp lovers on the forums! :) Funny, I was about to post a pic of my beardie!! :D

APS it is, I use the same name on there as I do here. MY BHP is a nth Queensland form, bought from Trueblue on APS. I love Inland Taipans, would love to see some pics.

TrueBlue's BHP's are really nice.. Mine are NT locale BHP's bred by Dens on APS.. I use the same user name on APS as I do here as well, although I don't post much on there.. I find that a lot of people are happy to give advise on things they know very little about, and that can be very dangerous when you're talking about the well being of an animal...

I'll get pics of Snappy as soon as I clean out the enclosure... I've got to milk her in the next week or so, I'll likely clean the enclosure at the same time to get all the stressful activities for the month out of the way in one day.. I must say, I loved Taipans untill I got Snappy.. Within two weeks of having her, I found out why they are called the Fierce Snake, and why they are so feared.. Its literally a minute before you start feeling the effects of what could be described as a very shy warning strike... If She gets really angry and actually gives you a fair bite, its a matter of seconds before you are light headed and getting dizzy and disorientated...

I have a very healthy respect for her, and what she's capable of.. any handling is done just after a feed when she's a little sluggish and seems a lot more placid.. She's a beautiful creature to watch, and she's definitely calming down as she gets more settled (I've only had her for 4 weeks now.. )

I must say, I love snakes, I think they are one of the best creatures roaming the planet, but my love for lizards far outweighs my love for snakes.. I have 2x NT frill neck hatchies, 2x central beardies, 1 eastern water dragon hatchy and am on the look out for a sub adult/juvi lace monitor... That would round out my collection then...

There is alot of mis-information on APS, going back maybe 2-3 years the site was much better. A friend of mine has an Inland also. The moment you walk into room it is kept, it is up and ready to strike, very beautiful animal. If I had the room I would like to get a few lizards, love frillies, just a dam shame they are on class 2 licence here.

Yeah they are still allowed on a recreational licence here.. The owner of the local pet store here is really jealous, she has a commercial licence which really limits her choices, she's allowed blue tongues, beardies and netted dragons.. Thats about it.

In that pic he was around 6 months old. He is now around 3 -4 years and close to 6ft. Very snappy, loves to bite. He is getting ready to slough at the moment, when he is done I will get some pics.

I thought he might be a youngun to have such wonderful colouring.. I've never heard of a snappy sub-adult BHP... my two hatchies were pretty nasty, but as they got to about a year old, they calmed down... Sure are a little cage protective, they like to huff and puff when I'm pulling them out, but once they are out they are usually fine...


Herps... Just as expensive, if not more expensive at times than astronomy.... :) The only thing is this, I've never had two telescopes mate, and then sell the offspring for $1000 each :D

My BHP started out fine for the first few months, never tried to bite, was fine to handle. Then over night he just turned, went from being real pacid to the son of satan himself I think.

Haha... Lucky I suppose that they look as good as they do... If I had a 6ft coastal carpet that was snappy it'd be sold quick smart.. if my BHP's turned and started snapping, i'd just cry when they weren't looking :P

Hi AlexN. I'm also on APS... Username: wombat. Very rarely post on there though. My Children's Python is the only reptile I have. Bought from africancichlidau 4 years ago.
