Hi All,
Well, turned 58 today and had an early start, up at 3am to image Mars.
The seeing was not quite a good as for my previous imaging session. We are in the middle of a heat wave and the temp at 3am was still 22 C with a warm Northerly wind blowing straight into the open slot in the dome of my observatory.
I captured 5 IR images of Mars and 1 of Procyon for a project that I am supplying data to. This is the final IR image from this session and I am pretty stoked with it.
The disk of Mars was 8.3 arc sec's diameter and Mars was 24 degrees above my local horizon. The wind affected my local seeing and due to its direction made the image somewhat unstable within the capture screen.
This image represents 2000 of the available 7500 frames from that avi.
I have presented it as suggested by Dennis, a labeled image with a copy side by side.

Well done again Trev.
You must of had matchsticks in your eyes.
One ponders if you spent your b/day asleep with being out observing till 11.30 then microsleep then go out imaging mars.
Great Mars image Trev as you mentioned last night wont be long before imaging Saturn in IR.

More great Mars work Trevor! This capture is even better than the other thread I commented in. Well done!
I can't wait until I get a few days off & the weather corresponds with them. I have a specialized IR filter as well for imaging Mars.

Thanks Kev, I should be out getting ready to image Jupiter but I just can't keep my eyes open. Must be getting old.
Thanks John, I was pretty pleased with how this image turned out and having seen your Jupiter effort I will look forward to seeing some of your Mars IR images.

Happy Birthday for today and what a present you gave yourself, another superb image of Mars. Once again I am quite astonished with the amount of detail given the apparent size of 8.3 arc secs combined with the low altitude.
I’m not sure if I missed the details of the IR filter in the previous post – would you mind posting them again if I did?:thanx:

I really am most pleased with how this turned out, there was some instability with the live feed but even so, I could still see quite well defined detail through the shimmer. With a 4 min capture and over 7000 frames to start with I was able to pull out enough good frames to build up a very satisfying result.
A wonderful image Trevor and so detailed as well. the explanation image beside is a great touch also.

Thanks Anthony, Tim requires unsharpened data and that looks pretty ordinary, so ounce I have sent off his data I have been reprocessing it all again to produce images like this one. It really goes against the grain sending off virtually raw data when I know a really nice image lurks somewhere within it.
No probs Dennis, yep, most happy with this filter.
Thanks Frank, I really enjoy processing data like this, watching the detail gradually emerge as the processing proceeds.

Thanks Mike, Mars is proving a lot more interesting than I thought it would at this stage of this apparition.
