I am running Win XP on it at the moment, I can leave it on if required but NO Win XP CD will come with it

do u reckon if you say had a copy of xp installed on this machine it would be able to run phd,eqmod etc?

Yes - no problems at all. This price is a steal. I use my eeePC-701 for exactly that. The CD includes all the XP drivers specific to the 701, and they are installed after you blow away Linux and load XP from your own disks. Instructions are included so that you can minimise the XP installation to save space by removing unnecessary services.

Here's my eeePC-701 which runs PHD and Voyager 4.5 to talk to the Argo Navis all running under XP SP3 at the same time without a hitch. There is a red night-vision filter over the screen which is why it looks different here.
