I was looking at Area 51 on google earth and I saw this really long runway? It measured 7.38 klm's long. I have to ask what the hell takes off and lands on this if it is a runway:eyepop:
 Alien motherships. ;)

Only half is the runway, the rest is the arrestor bed for stopping them when they overshoot the runway

Yes, it's a runway...the world's longest to be exact. Area 51 (Groom Lake) has been used since the 50's by the U.S. government to carry out secret experiments involving new types of aircraft and other types of vehicles. It's where the U2 and AR/SR 71 spyplanes were tested. It's situated on the Nellis AFB atomic test range, about 80 miles NW of Las Vegas. It's also where the alleged "Aurora" spyplane is currently based at and being tested, as well as where the crashed and intact example of UFO's are supposedly brought to before shipping off to "S4" (at Papoose Dry Lake, about 10km SW of Groom Lake). It's also allegedly where both dead alien bodies are being kept and where live aliens are also living...apparently working in conjunction with the USAF and a group known as MJ12 (setup by order of Pres Truman in 1947), who are a group of scientists and senior military personnel.
The U.S. government only recently acknowledge it's existence (during the Clinton Administration) but still won't say what occurs out there.
Also near there is Tonopah AFB, which is where they tested the F117 Nighthawk.
Here's some info for you to look at.... Area 51 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Area_51) and Tonopah AFB (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonopah_Test_Range_Airport)
