Help - lunar crater in a crater

Hi all

Last night I used my spotting scope to look at the moon - 8pm Brisbane time - on the terminator I saw a fantastic large crater with a smaller one inside it (near the south pole). It looked stunning under the low magnification.
As I prepared to set up my main scope for imaging clouds rolled in.
I have search for a bit to identify the craters but I have not found a similar terminator image :help:to help me identify it - any ideas?

Hi Dennis - no wet gear!

I really would need a global comparison - but one thing for sure, it was a big crater - I was at x35 magnification - maybe sometimes the full scale view make you see things that are not quite there?!

It was south near Schriller - always next month!

What reference material do you use for viewing lunar data? Have you seen Virtual Moon Atlas at http://ap-i.net/avl/en/start

It’s a free download and incredibly rich in functionality, images, data and details.

Hi Dennis
I usually use a steel moon globe form the 60's as a reference tool - it works surprisingly well for me.
I have used VMA in the past and have downloaded again.
My first thought was Schickard but there is little to see inside it. After some review I thought what I saw was a combination of Phocylides, Nasmyth and Wargentin - the 3 craters may have appeared as one with an Nasmyth the 'inner' crater.
It could have been Segner?
