Viewing from the Bunya Mountains???

Has anyone observed from the bunya mountains??? if so how was the condition was their much light pollution???

I was up there last month.
At maidonwell (spelling ??)
It was wonderful.
The council has down pointed street lights.

There is a privately funded observatory there.
They do public showings. (generally with three Meade 14 inch SCTs)

I was intending asking if anyone else had been there.

Even if you dont go to the observatory ($25pp) you could set up in the sports field ajacent.

We go up there about twice a year. -Always take the scope, because when the skys are good they are very good.

What isn't good are the regularly high winds, fog, low cloud, freezing nights and lights from other rentals. I estimate that we average 1 good night in 7-10 days.

To the north is Kingaroy which has a bit of a light bloom and east is Tawanga power station which is lit up like a xmas tree.

to get the best part of the sky, you need to pick a house that has a potential scope area on the south, and is not surrounded by bunya pines.

For pure astronomy trips my recommendation is to stay in one of the cottages that are nearby, but off the mountain where the conditions are much more stable, -or leave the scope at home take advantage of the Maidenwell Observatory.
