Here it is, the moon set at 2.30 a.m., the sun was rising at 4.00 so I had a 90 minute window this morning when the weather here broke long enough to give this new scope a look at the sky. The obvious choice was M42, M43 and the Running Man - all in one frame. The scope has a FL of 950 making it F/7.5 and this was done at prime focus. It turned out to be just 3 x 10 minute subs with some flats and darks applied and spruced up with PS. Taken with a QHY8.
Enjoy.

Nice. If you can get some subs to fix the core that would finish it off. Nice colours and detail! Scope is working well. What type and brand?

Hi Paul, it's one of those North Group scopes. Its a 5" triplet that I imported from China for less that US$1K. Great value for money.

Nice image, lovely depth of colour.
I hear Pixinsight has a HDR wavelet function that may be able to restore the core. I haven't tried it myself but their website shows M42 as an example of how it works.
There's a free 30 day trial if you can get their trial system to work (I haven't received my password yet).

Peter congrats on the ED127 I bought one aswell about 12 months ago. Haven't done much serious work with it yet though, allways something else to do or the weather as been atrocious.
I downloaded the trial 21 days ago and still waiting for a password.
Good customer service.

Looks like you got it up and running pretty painlessly pete. I see from that star on the right that you are getting QHY8 internal refections like me :(

Robin, That reflection is unavoidable without making modifications to the QHY8 or changing the setup rather drastically.. The reflections can be processed out... I've been working on this recently (with my IC434/B33 image) and now have the image with no reflection around Alnitak, and still retaining good colour balance where the reflection once was... Its not perfect yet, but I know its possible..
