Welcome Mombat,
I live out west of Ballarat at Snake Valley but a few of the members in here live in Melbourne and should be able to help you.
Other than that try this link for a club:
www.sky-watch.com/links/clubs_au.html
That might help.

I'm a (not very active) member of the Astronomical Society of Victoria. It is quite a large club with lots of special interest groups and acts as custodian of the instruments of the Old Melbourne Observatory in the middle of town. They have observing nights for members there and also operate a large scope in club premises in the Eastern surburbs. Membership also entitles you to assess their dark site in central Victoria. etc etc
Check them out at www.asv.org.au

Hey Mombat,
Just came up with an idea.:jump2:
Ballarat is only an hour from Williamstown if you want to check out the Club here.
Turn into Sovereign Hill, :driving: go up the hill, turn left at the top and go about 800m and its on the corner, Friday nights.
:stargaze:
