Hello everyone

Here is Mars from last Sunday (Oct 30). The views are about 25 minutes apart and provide a stereo view (use beyond-screen focus). South is at the top. Solis Lacus is near the top right. The remnants of the dust storm near Margaritifer Sinus is visible near the left limb of the planet.

Great image Zac. Love the 3D effect. I must admit to me it looks like I'm looking through a glass ball with the image on the inside of the opposite wall of the ball. It takes nothing away from a great image though. :thumbsup:

It sounds like you're crossing your eyes the wrong way.

If the first image taken is on the left, and the subsequent one on the right (as they are in my pair), then you have to focus your eyes beyond the screen to get the correct 3D image. If you focus your eyes in front of the screen (the incorrect thing to do), you will see, as you describe, a hollow sphere with the image projected onto the far surface.

On the other hand, if the first image taken is placed on the right side of the pair, then crossing your eyes in front of the screen will produce a 3D image with the image projected onto the near side of the sphere.

However, since convention usually requires that we place the first image taken to be on the left of the sequence, you have to focus beyond the screen to get the 3D effect. Focussing beyond the screen is a litter harder.

I know you showed us how to do this at Astrofest QLD, but man it's doing my head
in trying to get it working again. I think it was better when you had it up on the big
screen. btw, nice image!!!
