After seeing Doug's wonderful HH and all the repros lying around I couldn't help myself. Never got a good HH in 2 years I've been imaging and I can't wait to see it come back to give it a proper go. I recently got a licence of registar which is just great for registration. I have sooo many subs on the HH I though I'd throw everything I got in, the good and the bad and see what comes out of it. So this is my heavily cropped 1:1 HH + flame nebula. I guess all the frames being rotated, offset and what not this is the "intersection" of all the data
So it's smooth alright but cropped. I can't say exactly but there's about 9h of Ha, and a good 5h of RGB so it's a HaRGB blend. That was all taken over a period of 2 years with the QHY8 on my 5" newt at prime focus.
There's a high res version at: http://www.multiweb.com.au/astro/HH_f.jpg

Nice Marc, it is a shame you had to crop it so heavily. This target takes a lot of exposure to bring out it's best. I left my rig snapping away 20 minute exposures and went to bed to try and get the best I could and to be honest the skies at Snake Valley were fantastic, Mag 6 and 7 stars jumped out to the naked eye even with the sky glow from melbourne and ballarat. What I would do to live in an area with skies like this. I hope to add some Ha to my copy in the near future.
Give this target a new go with big long subs. It's worth the effort for sure.
Isn't Registar something else for registration of images. I bought a copy a while back and was very happy once I worked it all out.
Nice one.

Loads of detail Marc. Would of been better if it wasn't cropped though. I am not sure that you could't get the same result with say a two night sitting session? I look forward to the complete uncropped version. Nonethless fantastic detail

That's a good image Marc . Yes, shame about the heavy cropping and the slightly mismatched registration (double diff spikes), but the result is smooth, detailed and quite pleasing.
Cheers, Marcus

Thanks Doug. I'm going to do a serious coverage of it this summer and try to get a good RGB of it for a change. The only decent shot I have is all Ha from my backyard and still not much to look at. Too noisy. Registar is awesome at registering. Not sure about the blending/stacking functions though. Seem to get a lot of gradients from subs to subs. Not sure if it's normalisation problems but I can seem to blend anything nicely. I just register and save to finish off in CCDStack.
Thanks Paul. It would be certainly  But you should have seen the subs I made this out of. It's like a patchwork. This is the biggest common area I could get.
Far too many David. :P
Thanks Marcus - Yeah it turned out smooth which I liked. The double diff spikes are in the subs, not a registration problem. My secondary at the time was slightly rotated so I had 8 spikes instead of 4. I could get rid of those diffraction lines too that go across but I didn't bother as I'll have to re-shoot the whole thing anyway. Better next time.

F/6? what is F/6?? :P yea man.. Im hanging out to see 4hrs of 5min subs of the horse through the C11 @ F/1.8!! its gonna be crazy... I got $10 says that if you shoot 40mins of 1min subs you'll decimate my 8.5hr image..

Yes, very nice Marc, but yr missing the "rain" effect on the HH often seen. Similar exposure times on the fastar would bring them out.
