Jase was kind enough to collect some data with his equipment for me to play with. Thanks Jase.

The data is RGB and the exposures were 300sec, 600 sec and 900 sec.

This is my first attempt using my HDR method. I only used the 300 sec and 900 sec data. There are things in this image I have never seen before.

I wonder how much better I could get it with a bit more practice and all the data! I feel a Sidonio coming on.

Nicely captured data Jase, nicely processed Burt. That's one of the better M20/M8 widefield shots that I've seen.

Nice work Bert. I reckon you could do better though. You've got a huge dynamic range to work with, but don't think the image presents that yet. You could try a few things here to emphasise the HDR process. Try performing an aggressive DDP stretch on the 900s data, then use the conventional 300s or 600s as you normally would. You could also alter the ADU of all pixels using 600s and/or 900s using pixel math to weight the intensity. I know very little of the HDR process except that stepped exposures are what's needed for the range, so best not listen to a fool like me.;) I'm a traditionalist, where levels and curves are king, but admire and support the efforts of those that push boundaries with other methods.

Bert is now the custodian of the data so can do as he pleases - I acquired it for him to give HDR a whirl and have no intention of processing it myself. Too many other projects on the go. Technically, I had very little to do with it, other than script the scope to do its thing and go to bed. Robotic/unattended imaging at its best.

Next version I will try star reduction selectively to RGB individually to minimise the very slight colour haloes before registering and combining.

I have added the three original images used to generate the tone mapped image.

Lots of great detail to look at there, nicely done.
Probably my overactive imagination but the way M8 is oriented appears to me as the profile of a face.
