Trev, my next indulgement will is a stationary steam engine. They're beaut, aren't they?
So this is what my wife meant when I overheard her telling the kids ... "Boys will be boys, but girls will be women !"
But hey they are good aren't they :D. I can tell I'm going to order one very soon cos I keep going back to that site. Thanks Trevor
PS - What did you order Marki? - if you don't mind telling.

Paul I bought one of the bohm twin stirling engines (H26). I have been fascinated by these for more than a year. I just want to see what they make them out of and why they go like stink (2000 - 2500RPM on alcohol). Will make a great desk display as well :D. I think Trevor bought one of the singles.
Stephen watch the steam it burns. I have a small steam engine and the number of times I have had my hands a little too close when it decides to start..... AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHH thats bloody hot.

OK, you got me...my photo's still show the stock exhaust. New Hyper-flow cats and a Larini Sports muffler makes it sound a bit more like Pavarotti ....

Looks good Trevor but sounds like you may want to put a drop of oil on the crank journal supporting the rods for the displacer and piston. Speeds them up and quiets them down :).
PS: I spent about four hours putting the twin together because I kept dropping those bloody little pins :P:D. I might get the flame eater to go with the one I have. Love toys they are just the best.

Those little steam engines look good. Can you use them for anything or are they just gadgets?
What? Dead? Looks nice tho
Your panel door is bent, too. That brand is famous for it. Put a new brace on the back.

They can be used but not for much at this scale
more too show the working principle

They are stirling engines not steam engines. They are a whole lot safer and cleaner to run as there are no boilers to blow or steam to burn you or oil and water spewing everywhere. The larger ones (I have the twin) are quite powerful and come with a pulley to drive accessories. I used mine at school today to turn an electric motor as a generator. I hooked up a light bulb and it worked :D. The kids love it and it screams along at 2500RPM.
