Hi :)
Any suggestions as to accessible viewing spots in and around Brisbane.
I am very new to astronomy, and have a pair of 11x56 binoculars....
are there others with binoculars that meet regularly???
looking forward to hearing any ideas or suggestions you may have
thank you:nerd:

I wouldn't bother with Brisbane.....come with us to a star party....thats if you like to travel....their is Mark Hodson place on the way to Toowoomba about an Hour from Brisbane or go up north to Kenilworth...they seem to be have viewing nights every month pending on weather.....you will see so much more out at these sites then you dare to see in Brisbane.
Most of the guys have binoculars.

Hi JMB ,
Look up Astroron and send him a message on how to get to his place near Kenilworth. Are you on the North side or a Mexician!?? Cheers Zub
Hi;)
I am on the south side...Coorparoo...
Yeah i wanted to go to Ron's but unfortunately couldn't make it this weekend, hopefully next time....
I guess i was looking for somewhere relatively near that i could take advantage of...not the skies have cleared since i got my binoculars...
oh well, ....

Yes, I'm in Brisbane too, and it's been cloudy and rainy ever since I got my Scope on Wednesday, but, we need the rain, so I can't complain...

So you guys are causing this :D
I find the largest improvement in skies for the shortest drive is out to the Lockyer Valley, and in particular to Mark Hodson's place.
My backyard is just passable, whereby I can just make out the Magellanic clouds when they are high and there is no moon. When I want really dark skies I head out to Leyburn (~2 hours drive) to the SAS observing field. PM me if you want to catch up and keep an eye out for advertised starparties. We advertise the get togethers out at Mark's place under the heading of Glenore Grove. You can check out previous party reports searching for "grove"

Mark's place at Glenore Grove in the Lockyer Valley might be inaccessible to us for a while as Mark is currently busy saving up for his next big step forward in apareture :)
