Hi all, I'm new to the astronomy scene, and was wondering if anyone knows how the Skywatcher ed 120 pro performs. I'm talking about the previous model to the black diamond range, (the gold coloured model) . 120mm ed with 900mm focal length. Any replies with thoughts and experience would be apprieciated. :)

I think these things are an absolute steal ! I would love one.
Here is a "no bull" full optical test. A Strehl of .983 and very well corrected in the red and green for visual is quite amazing for the price.

Here (http://www.astromart.com/articles/article.asp?article_id=678) is a review of a scope with similar optics. Synta owns Celestron/Sky-Watcher/Orion so chances are they are the same optic (120mm 900FL ED doublet). It gets a good write up!

The new Black Diamond ED120 is getting excellect reviews. The gold tube has same optics without the dielectric diagonal and 2 speed focuser which you could upgrade and still come out at least $500 cheaper than the BD. Great scope:thumbsup:

Gday Rick

I agree with Andrew - the gold tube is the same optics as the blck diamond as far as I know. I use an ED120 black diamond the only difference is I upgraded to a motorised moonlite focuser (I am lazy and autofocus is just too easy for a half blind old fella). I have several other scopes costing 2 and 3 times as much and I always go back to the black diamond - it stands up against most scopes irrespective of price - grab it mate if it is the right price - you wont be sorry - just stick it on a decent mount.
