Hi I imaged this guy last week, only managed 1 hour over 2 nights. The wind and poor seeing cut the nights short, anyway hope it is still enjoyable.
Taken with 18" Newt. and QHY9

Oooh thats nice. Only 1 hour - amazing detail for so little. Your 18 inch Newt has sooo much potential.

I did not know this galaxy was imageable from southern skies. Its a beauty.

Greg.

Nice looking galaxy, nice detail for only an hour as well. Size does matter!

You guys are too far south...should make a trip north. You'll get to see things you thought never existed:P:thumbsup::D:D

Thanks guys for the encouragement, big scopes are great it's mounting them that will send you to the crazy house. Lost count of the alterations and rebuilds, pulled the mount down into a hundred bits yesterday and cut it up with the angle grinder today.:mad2: Maybe something better will form from the scrap pile:question:

Ken, quite a tall order given the galaxy's northern presence. You've done very well in acquisition. Suspect the data could be stretched a little more, but thats me. If you don't push the data hard, you will not know what its capable of. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice image resolving a lot of detail with the 18", thanks for the view Ken.

All the best for more.

very nice Ken, I love all the galaxies in the background. Look forward to seeing this one again when you get a bit more exposure time.

Thanks guys for looking I didn't have much data to work with only 12 minutes for each colour channel plus the luminance, the qhy9 was running at -30c helping to maximize the signal. I doubt I will be able to image any more objects this low in the north as I am lowering the mount structure by 300mm because the tube is constantly hitting the roof. This makes tracking across the meridian almost impossible with a rotating roof.

Good job on capturing what is a pretty low galaxy, even from up north.

I bagged this galaxy from Canberra back in 2003 with my 12" LX200 when I was just starting out in imaging, it was only in B&W though, yours is much nicer

Thanks for the comments Frank, Jen and Mike your 12" LX200 should have been a great Galaxy machine.

Yeh it was ok but it took for ever to thermally stabilise, even with less focal length the Starfire pulls in just as much detail or even more so and has a much wider corrected FOV...but yes, it is only 6" compared to 12" so takes longer to grab the faint stuff
