Franz Joseph Glacier

Had a helicopter flight booked to fly over both Franz Joseph and Fox Glaciers, but the weather turned nasty and flights cancelled. Did do a quick walk and managed to get this.

Pitty about the weather Troy, we went up in the helicopter when we were over there a couple of years back and it was amazing flying all around there and we landed up top as well and got out for a bit of a walk, fantastic but i am so sorry you had bad weather.

I did the scenic flight from Lake Tekapo (I wanted to do the helicopter flights over both glaciers, but, they were booked out). It wasn't a bad thing that I did the scenic flight instead, as, at 9 AM it was the most amazing autumn morning -- not a single cloud in the sky. My pilot just couldn't wait to get in the air, he was so happy with the weather.

Beautiful image. I'm yet to process mine taken from exactly the same location. You were lucky that you had some blue sky -- I was clouded out, d'oh!

Thanks guys. Much of the most scenic parts of the west coast were clouded in. The patch of blue sky in this photo disappeared pretty quickly and next couple of days were drizzle. Still, spectacular scenery.

Hi Troy.

These images bring back fond memories for my partner and I.

We visited the same area just a few months ago.

We were able to walk down onto the dry river bed and walk right up to the face of the glacier.

Here's a couple of shots I took with the 40D during our time there.

Thanks for the reminder of how spectacular this part of the world is.
