Ngc2170

This is a fairly wild area of sky. It is near Orion and again is an early
morning target.

Taken the last few nights from about 2am to 4:30am over 2 nights.
I also shot a bit of wider field for this but the narrower field suits it nicely.

Quite a dim area though.

TEC180mm fluorite, FLI ML8300, Baader 50mm square filters.

LRGB 90 50 50 50 .

The TEC180 is 1260mm. The 8300 chip is something like 14x10mm and 8.3 megapixels.



Thanks, I was happy with the initial luminance downloads that made it worth putting in the time to capture it. Its a bit inconvenient when it is only imageable from about 1:30am onwards.

It was in fact a bit noisy in parts. I used Noise Ninja on the Ha which still had some noise. I also used Noel Caboni reduce deep space noise.
There was a small amount of blur tool used on noisy areas not too much.

I then selectively sharpened that ridgy area to get some extra detail back.

Same with the NGC2170 shot which had tons of colour noise. So dim even if very colourful.

Thanks Humayun. Its not commonly imaged perhaps because it is quiter dim even though its quite close to the popular Orion area.

Yeh some amazing colours in this one Greg and you have managed to retain the dust looking like it is in front of the background red Ha swath, nice work.

I have to agree with Jase though, the res of your latest work doesn't look quite up to speed :confuse3:..As you say it may be something else, like insuficient well depth (although I don't get the connection here?), but to me it looks like you are smoothing and bluring out the images a tad too much? Like Jase said they just don't have the sharpness that I would be expecting from such a scope, what do you think? :shrug:

Having said that, they are still a pleasure to view :thumbsup:

This one was surprisingly noisy so yes it has been smoothed more than normal. It really needs another 5 or 6 hours and I may do that next trip. Limited time and all that plus it was only imageable from about 2am onwards. Later on in the season it'll be more accessible. I think I'll try reducing the exposure times to 5 minutes to reduce the largish stars as with the Tak 1.6X the star sizes were much improved so the small wells of the 8300 chip are showing their weakness I think.
