Wow, the glass could probably be water-cut to provide a number of 20-30" blanks for re-grinding....

Or leave it as a 60" mirror for one fantastic scope.

Somehow I don't think the OP is reffering to a telescope mirror guys:question:.

Yes its a telescope mirror , Ken said the mirror more that likely have to be re-coated because it has been laying in the back yard with tarp over it for a few years

They don't just fall off trees. I wonder who made it in the first place and for whom / what?
You could permenantly mount it in a cell in the ground. Youd be restricted to wahat eas directly o'head - but what images you could make!!

Take a few pictures of it so we can all see what it looks like and get a feel for it's thickness , condition etc.

Someone give George L a tingle , I'd be willing to bet he'd love to get his hands on such a big chunk of glass... I assume it's glass , and rather thin (or maybe a few laminated or fused sheets).

If anyone can do something with it , he's the guy.

This beast would have already gone if I weren't 3300km away.

My guess is that it came out of one of these: http://www.ftmac.org/GElight.htm

It's gonna be fun making a diagonal for that :)

Not sure you could use something like that for a telescope....hmmmm...If it is a searchlight mirror, I hope it can be adapted....
I just pray that when I ring him at a reasonable hour, it turns out to be a telescope mirror...

according to this post it is a Telescope Mirror

If its enormous, thick and heavy, its propbably not a searchlight mirror, which are basically coated bits of metal.
That light is commonly called a "Gladiator", I think.
The next down being a Super Trouper, of Abba Fame.

Man I'm very excited!! Can't wait can't wait!:jump2:

After rebuilding the century-old telescope a couple of years back and restoring the other one last year,

Sorry guys, I just spoke to Ken. It is a WWII anti-aircraft spotlight mirror as suspected.

Bummer.

Baz
Sorry for building up your hopes and the run around, Ken come and told me he had this mirror and I did not ask too many question about it and as I didn't see it myself and not knowing that WWII searchlight were mirror base I though I must be a telescope mirror

You wouldn't need to take a gun, they'd undergo spontaneous combustion!

And it would have been a big headache too. If carried horizontally is overwidth for a truck and if it was a 6:1 thickness mirror it would be over a tonne. Just getting from Sydney to Canberra would be a large job.

Just as well for me I had a 3 tonne truck at my disposal...
