Nice work! You're giving that lens a workout.

Background seems a little noisy - were these cropped?

yes,cropped,i had to crop a fair amount,as

in original he is so tiny.some of the PPP gurus might

be able to give me some pointers to may be make

a better pic out of these, might be worth the effort.

Particularly the one with rat.

Very nice shots Chris - you really are pretty good at the bird photography - I take my hat off to you sir! When I eventually get a car and head out your way I'll expect you to take me on a birding tour and give me tonnes of birding photography tips.

I can tell ya that the day when I accidentally trip over a leprechaun because I was trying to dodge standing on a new shoot of the money tree in the front garden and I land vertical on one finger in the ground and my feet pointing up at a flying cow .... either Chris (hotspur) or David (ving) will supply the snapshot to the forum .... AND .. it will be a GREAT picture !!!

Wow Chris, that's amazing. It's been a while since I've seen a bird of prey up close. I have seen a few kestrals in my time, one of which was way back in 1988. It was a youngish one and it was happy to let me and best mate approach it within 1.5m or so from memory. I only had a 50mm lens though and didn't want to spook it, so didn't get too clsoe. I saw a large wedge tailed eagle a few years back, but my camera/lens and me weren't capable of grabbing a decent shot. My best shots are a grey goshawk (female from memory, early summer coat).

Chris,

I know how challenging bird photography is, and, you're going gangbusters with these.

Well done. That lens is a corker. :)
