Went out again searching, for some flowing water / scenery to shoot. Came up trumps, but had a very pleasant surprise on the walk back.

A short nose (?) Echidna!! I had no idea your could find these guys in the small snippets, of bushland left in the Sydney suburbs. So you can imagine my surprise, when he crossed my path. He was actually pretty big.

He seemed to have a fascination with my camera bag. I think he was trying to mount it. It was cute, until he started diggin' and covered it with dirt (Lens inside). Worth the shots though IMO.

This is the first time I have seen one close up in the wild, so I was stoked with the event. :D

I love his lil' diggin' feet, very cute.

Thanks for looking!! :)

Very nice.
They are actually pretty common. You just dont see them out in daylight. Not to many preditors can attack them.
My daughter was pretty stoked last week as on the 1 day on our property she fond an echidna, a koala and 2 black snakes.

They're funny little critters. Not scared of people at all. We had one on our property a year or so ago, it walked right up to me and stuck his head inside my furry slippers.
Strange also how each major continent has their own spikey version, hedgehogs for Euro, porcupines for the US and Africa and our weird version.

Using the 200mm lens, so I was a few meters away. Didn't want to distrub him too much. I dropped my bag about 15m away from him. He decided to burrow next to my bag. :)

Yes, my girl friend was telling me of them there. yet I didn't believe her. ;P

Thanks!!

This lil' man, did seem a bit shy though. These were the only shots with flash I used. Didn't want to disturb him too much.

Adorable!!

Thanks!!
