Howdy all,

just thought ide post these shots they arnt special but considering the conditions where gusty breezes and the fact that i didn't have a MPCC to correct for the coma :(, its the best i could of hoped for.

These where more or less scouting shots.

Nice image Brendan. The nebula looks great but the stars look a bit oversturated.

hey all thanks for the words.

Doug- I think that they are a little saturated on this monitor, problem is i guess the laptop that im processing them on is colour matched to the photo printer here at curtin and on the lappy it doesn't look as saturated. Most monitors are out of whack something feirce and i had loads of problems initially when i started as my monitor the image looked mint, i then viewed it on another and it looked like a patch of spew :(.

Dave - I have been trying to get this shot for a while, but my guiding just wouldn't work PHD always timed out when calibrating. so happy days i finally got a guidestar and flung off some shots. When i get the MPCC finally then i will definately take a few hours of data maybe some 10 min shots with a 5min and 1 min reduction.

Trevor - of course i was there i was one of the guys who helped you out with various bits of software and PC's :D remember the 10" SW on a meade tripod and all machined losmandy type saddles? the new setup did very well with the sail purched up high, on some of the gusts it would only take a second or so for the guide star to settle now thats mint! and considering the new saddle rail and puck setup set me back a few hours of my time and a scratch around in curtins offcuts. :) thats a true uni student for you.!

Pretty much the same field of view that I shot at Border Stargaze, too.

Thanks for that Humayn, I have become a great fan of layermasks. with the DSLR's lack of dynamic range its needed so that i can capture the outer reaches but not loose the inner core's where it floods the cmos senser quickly (plus the 10" does suck in the light at f4.7).

The shot needs alot more data and a MPCC to give it a nice feel! stay tuned for this one

Nice shot brendan, nice that you've managed to get some pink in there, mine is all blue (modified vs un-modified cams).

DSLR lack of dynamic range???? Are you for real? :) You've got a 40D right, 14bit, that's not bad you know ... ever tried slide film, or 8 bit or even 12 bit? :) The only thing that has more dynamic range is 16bit astro cams! Anyhow, curves in conjunction with layers are the way to go, as you pointed out :)

hehehe yes i know 14 bit isn't bad but just like it always is... ide love better. ill suffice with the 40d untill i start working after that it will be a dedicated cooled astro CCD for sure (i hate noise :D)!
