Over the years I have slowly built up my equipment. Some cheap, some expensive but as a whole there's not a chance I would be able to replace even half of it now. I added the whole amount of the gear I have on my Home & Content insurance. Now for most of the bits and pieces I have receipts but the second hand stuff, well you know... I rang the insurance and asked about it. When making a claim do I need a purchase receipt. The person on the phone said you don't have to. It's best but it can be evaluated as a replacement value new for old kind of thing. Does this sound right to you guys. How do you do yours? Don't bother? Try not to drop anything? ;)

I think it depends - when you listed on your insurance, did you state it was 2nd hand (and without receipt)? Is your insurance old for new? Most of my stuff is covered by my parent's home insurance, although I've had to declare some other stuff and pay a premium on top of the normal annual premium (collectibles, etc).

It's a premium on top of the standard home and content that protects me from dropping the stuff or getting it stolen at home or even on site in the bush. Haven't specified if it was new but I told the operator most of it was second hand and they didn't seem to mind or care. :shrug:

I have been told the same by my insurance company but was also told that if I have photo's and/or video evidence of me having particular items it might help.

Absolutely Roger. The operator told me exactly the same thing. Take photos of it. I guess I'm safe then - it's all over IIS :lol: May be that's why Mike Sidonio's got all those shots on PBase of his new toys with him holding the boxes with a big happy grin. ;)

That's a really good point actually. Document everything. I might add that all receipts should be stored off site, preferably in a bank cash box, with duplicates of images of said gear there as well. Having multiple copies of everything (signed by a JP) is probably a good idea too in hindsight.
