mounting up!

Hi all, wondered if anyone has any experiences - good or bad - with either the HEQ5 mount, especially the new version with skyscan, or alternatively with the celstron go to CG5 from the advanced series. I'm looking for a cheap-ish mount that can handle cassegrain tubes between 8 and 13kg (say up to C11) well enough for visual and planetary imaging?

I must admidt i have not , however I do have the eq6 and I am very happy with that, it will definitely carry the c11 ;)

Well, this guy (Corn on the CN forums) is/was using a Heq-5 for imaging. Look here (http://web.telia.com/~u18524382/) for his pictures.

I don't know wether a (H)EQ5 would be able to carry a c11 but a EQ-6 certainly can. I think that the (H)EQ5 would be good for a 8" or the 9.25".

Yeah I agree.....a C11 is a little to big for imaging on a HEQ5....fine for visual....especialy once you put a guide scope...

I wouldn't go any larger then the C9.25 max for an HEQ5

Hi Robert, I have both the EQ6 and Celestron CG5 ASGT, I use both mounts with my C11, the EQ6 will handle anything you throw at it, the CG5 does handle the C11 for visual and planetary imaging but it is not as stable as the EQ6 damping times are somewhat longer with the CG5.
when the Brisbane sky clears drop me a PM and you are welcome to come around to see the two mounts in action.I,m on the southside.
