Are certain laser pointers legal in WA

if so what do i need to buy

Well http://www.mediastatements.wa.gov.au/Pages/Results.aspx?ItemID=130007 says in part "The Minister said there were still genuine reasons for people possessing and using laser pointers, and if used appropriately, these people had nothing to be concerned about and the new regulations would not affect them."

Your local astro societies should have a better idea. NSW rules are probably different, but do allow members of groups registered with the police to use lasers for astronomical purposes.
