View Full Version here: : How Deep is your Love - I love the Orion area from IISAC2009

I took this on the Friday night/well technically Saturday morning of ISSAC2009 and while it is only 2 hours worth of imaging it has given me a goal to get many more hours of this next month when it is in the sky for longer. taken with a modded canon 20D, canon f2.8 200mm L lens ISO 800 and a stack of 3 minute shots. Entirely processed in Pixinsight - only resized in photoshop for here. the sky conditions were challenging - a clear but boiling atmosphere made auto guiding a challenge. Scintillation saw my earlier efforts of Pleiades a waste of time.
i will be doing several "Sidonio's" (ok for those that done know - reprocessing:lol: ) of this;)
by the way - I processed this under Duress of Mike Sidonio, RB, Fred V and a few others watching over my shoulder - they were pretty quiet - i must have done something wrong LOL

Aye, T'is good to be trying a fixed camera lens. I am about to try one myself soon, had to go the medium format route though, given a CFW and CCD. Pentax 6x7 for me, a 200/4 and a 55/4. Nice work Dave.

Ok seeing you mentioned it, here is some more duress - a Sidonio of your image by...?..Sidonio :P
As I said at IISAC this is a great image as it is and you have picked up a lot of faint stuff in there
I had a play with it though  but like I said to Doug, please trash it if ya dunna like it or doing this annoys you :D

Nice one Dave. Doesn't look like I disturbed you too much in my visits to your spot that night. There was a lot of banter from H's spot though - mostly from Mike & Fred et al, which added to the fun atmosphere of the event. The 6303 went very well over my way as it turns out.
cheers

Yeah thanks for that Guy. had to be a victory in that weekend somehow. the show was a special event as well, many people pay huge amounts of money for slapstick standup comedy like that:D;)
thanks Petra
yep your right - next month give it another go
thanks Dennis
Thanks Al:thumbsup:
Thanks Frank - my first effort was literally processed on the spot after downloading, just to see what i had in the image. Will be a work in progress for me for some time to get it right.

That's a beauty Dave.
Shadows/hihglights tool in Photoshop with M42 area lasooed
or curves to get the core areas less overexposed does that.

Wow - that's very special special David - thanks for showing.
Nice job on the repro, Mike:thumbsup:
You've brought out plenty of detail in the neb, which was originally somewhat burnt out.

I like it, Dave! Very nice indeed! Lots of detail and dust. I also like Mike's processing - it adds a bit more life to it.

ah yes well i thought that Mike Added some extra herbs and spices to the mix - and a few tweaks, but i will leave that to him to describe his image processing prowess;) for me a mere mortal i will go down another path and see the result, reverse and follow the next one until i find the promise land:rofl:

Dave - my humble apologies - I don't know how I missed this image, I swore I commented on this earlier. Excellent wide field image - plenty of dust, details and nice 'n' sharp with good tracking.

Very Nice David, You have captured loads of detail and you have a wonderful field of view in this image, well done.
h0ughy
20-10-2009, 09:45 PM
thanks Doug. I love this section of sky, so many different nebs and colours, this rates second after Rho oph area. I never dreamt of capturing a shot like this a few years ago, now i am only disappointed i didn't get more data. i should really compare it to my very first shot of this area, this is only the third time i have imaged it. (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/attachment_browse.php?a=25768) this is a comparison of the development of having no skills whatsoever to the next rung up the ladder of having virtually no skills:lol: so its a progress from 2007 until 2009

LOL And I bet we all thought it was absolutely marvellous Dave. I cringe when I look back at what I've posted.
You've come a long way matey boy, imagine what you'll be showing us in 2 years time.
h0ughy
21-10-2009, 05:00 PM
LOL thanks
Well I had a rush of blood and in the absence of SHort exposure data and high resolution frames of the main areas, masking abilities and other image processing all i basically can do is push it to reveal all I can, yes orion is blown out, but i dont care - to me this looks more "natural" ok maybe not but it shows the dust ;)

21-10-2009, 05:53 PM
An awesome area of the sky eh Dave.
Love it.
h0ughy
21-10-2009, 11:08 PM
Thanks JJJ, i just love this part of the sky
Mate I was gobsmacked when I saw this shot, I couldn't believe how much dust you captured in the shot.
Love the colours too mate, excellent work.
I'm going to check out this PixInSight app.

hope you do, thanks RB for your input - BTW here is another repro:rofl:

Time for a big mosaic, David ;)
Fantastic shot David! BTW - I really like the 'natural look' as well. Both processing forms have their place, and for this shot I really feel it works.
Don't worry, you have a long way to go yet. If you post another repro next year then you should seek help

23-10-2009, 04:49 PM
Ah see Sidonioing is infectious huh? All that tight R's humbug in the past and now everyone is doing it  viva la Sidonio (the process, not me :P)
Yes the dust is there but it is kinda dirty green/red  ...blue rules :D

I am still in nappies for image processing:rofl:
h0ughy
23-10-2009, 05:23 PM
LOL might just do that when i have more image processing skills in the grey area
h0ughy
23-10-2009, 05:27 PM
LOL but it is dirt - with lots of Hydrogen surrounding it;)
I suppose it is processing to taste :P (and in my case ability:D). Like in the beer at - i am punching well above my weight with no idea:rofl: to be honest you can be too blue:whistle: but i need to work out how to get the correct blue:shrug:

i sent my stacked file to a fellow pixinsight user over christmas - someone who knows his software and processing skills

there is a lot to learn in that video......

20-02-2010, 11:58 PM
goodness me Mr Sidonio is running rampant again...........OK i couldn't help myself - another version - hopefully better. This is a sickness, fully processed in pixinsight, just one was saturated and one wasn't, and also some different tweaks undertaken. hope it is more acceptable?
strongmanmike
21-02-2010, 12:08 AM
We're not sick (well perhaps I am feeling just a little off?) , they are! All those boring, leave it as it is, never bother to try and improve it boffins, bah! :screwy:
