Hi all.
Had a great time at IISAC 2009.
Thought I'd post my first attempt at Jupiter plus two diff Moons using a very basic CANON IXUS 70 hand held digital camera and my LX200 10 inch.Afocal method.
A very quiet SUN kept me busy one morning.
All images taken while at IISAC 2009.
I know its not the best equipment around, but I get a lot of enjoyment out of what can be done with such meager equipment.
All are single images and were slightly adjusted for contrast and brightness etc..
Enjoy. Thanks for looking.

That's a neat set Geoff. I must try a handheld afocal shot of Jupiter one time.

Thx David,
I actually dont hold the camera by hand. I have a bracket that holds the camera close to the eyepiec e and it work OK .
But its an easy method, and I say give it a go for some fun.
Cheers.

Well done Geoff,
I am sure there are many people out there with relatively sophisticated equipment that don't get the satisfaction that you do because they don't use their equipment often enough.
It is much easier to set up basic equipment and so it is easier to use and more likely to be used more often. I am most impressed with the amount of detail you have captured in your second Jup image, the GRS is clearly defined and instead of featureless bands, there is discernible structure within them.
Your work is a great example to others of what can be achieved with a basic setup, again well done.
Regards
Trevor

Thx JJJ, Rick, Trevor, Jakob and Marc,
Its a shame you missed it JJJ, we had a blast.
Sun-down to Sun-up one night for me, made me a Zombie for the next day, but it was worth it.
Mike did a great job organising the event as usual.
Thx for the comments everyone, its a good bit of fun for me to get some reasonable results with very basic gear.

Nice shots Geoff ! You always display your shots well. Super effort with the hand held technology.

Thx very much Dave.
I still have room for improvement on technique and processing, but Enjoyment is the name of the game I feel.
Cheers.

Ah. I should get one of those brackets one day, it really does look like a lot of fun. How do you go for focusing, with what I presume is a very dim subject?

Hi Dave,
I focus on the Moons and with my camera ( IXUS 70 Canon )while I hold the capture button down half way until the camera focusses. I then adjust the scopes focus accordingly, and set the camera to time delay and then push the button and I dont touch it at all until it captures.
A bracket is a worthwhile investment.
Good luck and I want to see some images from you soon.;)

I gotta get the bracket first ;-) Might just have to put that down for the pay in 3 fortnights time - I see Bintel has some brackets, will investigate.

Lovely shots Geoff, especially the moon and sun shots.
Jupiter looks good too.
It really was a great star party.

Nice Geoff. The Sun really is quiet, isn't it? I like the fingernail shots of the moon ... very artistic!
Can't wait to get back off this road trip, just in time for summer nights at the Pony Club.
