Crayford 'style' focuser

Hi,

Sorry if this sounds silly. Is the 'crayford STYLE' focuser a Crayford focuser or is it a copy of one in design and if so is it as good. Its advertised on the GS Deluxe dobs and now the Meade lightbridge so just wondering if its the real Mccoy.

I have to admit I like Mike's focuser so how much is it for one of those beauties ?:)

Yep its good and well worth it for the price.
I think they are about $150 to buy separately.

'Crayford' is a style Norm, not a brand.
It's name is taken from the place where it is supposedly to have first been used, "Crayford Manor".

Yes! I must look into one for my 8" newt, still have the cheap and nasty RP focuser
on it. And now that I use XW"s weighing in @ 360g-400g makes for hard work for the
focuser and me.

I installed one of the GS Crayfords on my 8" and its probably the best upgrade/mod I have done to date.

I put a Crayford (Andrews) on my Celestron 8". Just a little fiddling as the holes had to be filed into a slot for about 2mm. Focus is about half as much for one turn, if you have a heavy ep, and it is pointing up, it finds it difficult to lift the weight. Otherwise, it works great.

So in line with the Champaign and the more recent Feta cheese cases, we can soon expect some European court ruling that the name Crayford may only be applied to focusers manufactured in Crayford Manor, and focusers produced elsewhere may not use the word "Crayford" in their name or description. Get ready for the next generation of Static-Friction Gearless focusers from Asia! :P
