It's a bit noisy, but this is one object that suffers from the HA filter in the 300D. Still I was happy with it.

There must be something wrong with me, I like the original "film grain" look. :P Well done anyway.

What is the main emission from IC 434? Whatever it is my Mintron video camera doesn't seem to be very sensitive to it, unlike hypered tp2415 .

Not sure what the emission is, but I know it comes out really well with H-Alpha filtering.
Unfortunately my camera has an HA blocking filter, so it's makes it a little tough.
The nebula itself is very dim which is perhaps why the video camera doesn't pick it up. In 4min raw exposure (ISO1600) the nebula jst comes through. Only by stacking 6 images can I get more detail & contrast through processing.

I agree with Rob, the HH is very difficult. My one and only attempt (and completely divorced from Rob's attempt) was a couple of nights ago, and I was fighting cloud across the area, but gave it a look. All in all about 15 minutes of varied exposures, some 1 minute and some 4 minutes. All at ISO1000, although I did get sick of the darkness and wound up the ISO to 1600 for a four minute exposure near the end.
D100 on the 10" f5 newt/G-11.
I believe it needs a very dark site, or maybe a "decent/real" CCD.

Nice shot Gary. Whats the white spike at the middle bottom? Any ideas?

thats probably from alnitak( spelt something like that) it's the eastern most star in orions belt.

Yep, I side with Mombat. It is orientated in a similar way to the other spikes, so it will be a brightish star just off the field.

I wish my video camera would pick up things like tech pan film did. This pic is 14 years old, taken through an 11inch f5 home ground Newtonian, 45 minutes on hypered TP-2415. My video camera only shows a smudge.

I also tried for a similar composition for my image, but couldn't get the flame in without getting too close to the edge and introducing ugly coma!
Film still has a place for sure!
