Really dumb to drive into something like that , and there's no evidence from the footage that the driver slowed down.

-- extremely poor visibility (high likelyhood of having a high speed head-on with another idiot driving the other direction who can't tell what sidie of the road they are
-- bad for the engine , that dust was very fine and a fair bit of it will have got through the air filter and into the engine where it will have melted and deposited
-- bad news for the air filter (not designed for those kinds of conditions).

I had a similar experience in summer 2000 in Port Hedland, I simply pulled over , and stopped the engine , and waited for it pass.

Well Ian, most drivers on our roads are pretty stupid I hate to tell you. We wonder why we have some many road fatalities (a higher per capita amount than any other country I believe) - it isn't the roads, nor the cars, it's the *drivers*. Dumb drivers make dumb decisions, which lead to dumb mistakes, which leads to road deaths.
