Hey i was thinking about joining the south east queensland astronomical society is anyone here in this astro club or have any information about joining???

I’ve been to a few of their meetings and attended some of their astro camps and they are a friendly bunch. I strongly recommend joining a club as it can short circuit your development as an amateur astronomer through being able to meet like minded folks and draw on their collective wisdom and experience.

Dennis has posted a link to the website, but SEQAS meets on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm in the Chermside library, where you would be most welcome. There is also an observing night this week end at Hazeledean, on the west side of the Somerset Dam. If you are interested in going up, I suggest you contact one of the Committee Members. Details can be found on the Website linked in Dennis' post.

Sorry, but the page doesn't load for me either. I put money on it that you're viewing cached content. Try another browser, or clear your cache/cookies/browsing history and try again and I think you'll find the site doesn't work.

It seems to be still registered, but a dig shows no DNS entries (connection timed out). ping times out, and telnet to the site on port 80 fails either (no such host). traceroute fails too (no such host).

The site is as dead as a doornail at the moment.

Hmm, works for me okay and has done so every time I’ve accessed the site today, which is 4 times. Now then, how much money are you prepared to wager? ;):lol:

My internet options are set to Automatically check for refreshed pages, not Cache and the attached screen print shows the upcoming meeting for 20th Oct and the Hazledene astro camp this coming weekend.

Note the “add on” warning message in the window.

Doesn't work for me either, I've seen this problem of selective availability before, we had it with one of our customers, the last time I think it was a network routing issue within telstra's network. We reported the problem several times over weeks, Telstra denied any problems. In the end a Telstra Tech who also happened to notice the problem took it upon himself to research and resolve the issue.

Also worked from the link on Ice In Space, this time showing the dates for this weekend’s astro camp scrolling in the pane. Tried just 5 mins ago.

This is getting weirder by the minute?

In terms of my environment and set up, I’m running XP pro SP3, IE8 with all the MS Updates and a vanilla Norton Internet Security suite and the pages seem to load okay as I just browed the site and it certainly looked alive and kicking?:shrug:

Neither a ping to the domain name nor a traceroute works from here (TAS) Try a traceroute from your end Dennis.

Dennis - it's nothing to do with your computer. It's probably a routing issue like Phil has indicated. Every ISP has a different route to the Internet, and to the myriad of pages. Can you try this for me please?

1) click the start button

2) click the run option

3) when the run box opens, type in "cmd" (without the quotes) where it says open and click the OK button

4) said DOS box will pop up, ready to take a command. Type in "tracert www.seqas.org" (without the quotes) and hit the enter button.

5) wait and see what it says.

Oh, and Dennis, just because your browser isn't set to cache, doesn't mean that upstream of you (i.e. your ISP) isn't cache, either on their proxy, or their DNS servers.

I work in the industry, this is my bread 'n' butter. I know what I'm doing.

Telstra is as useless as **** on a bull, especially their DNS servers. I wouldn't touch them with a 350 parsec barge pole.

Dennis - you can also use nslookup in DOS too, it's depracated in favour of dig, but what did you expect from Microsoft? Here's an excellent page on nslookup (I'm not ultra familiar with it, since I'm a UNIX guy):

There was a problem with the SEQAS site today. The host was out of action. Hopefully it will be back on line tomorrow. For enquiries send an email to president@seqas.org but that wont work until the website is back up.
I am also a member of SEQAS and I can assure you that you would get a warm welcome. Meeting at the Chermside library Tuesday next week (20th Oct) at 7:30PM. If you want to go to the Hazeldean night this Saturday send an email to the above address to let them know you will be coming and ask what you need to bring. Again you will be very welcome.

This is why I say there's hosting and hosting...we'd never let a customer go down for so long, worst case scenario it'd be a new vm and load from backup via our pipes link.

It’s still working for me the, much the same as it was yesterday when others couldn’t access the site and I noticed that the hit counter at the bottom of the home page has been incrementing between my visits to the site.:shrug:
