Hello all!

It's around two monts that I care about my zebra spider (Salticus scenicus). It's beautiful and very funny animal, even if its size only 4 mm :).

After two weeks waiting for my second macrolens Raynox 250 to arrive, I tried for some photo of this spider. I used my Panasonic FZ-18 and two stacked Raynox DCR-250 macrolenses. Field of view was around 4 milimetres, so almost the same as with e.g Canon 40D and mpe65 macro in 5:1 macro mode ... :). Image is without crop, just resized. Enjoy!

Cheers, Roman

I think it minds a hair cut. Nice shot i just got the same lens myself. Can you stack theses lenses together.

Yes, thx Phil :). Lenses can be stacked. But more than two has poor image quality. I tried three Raynox 250 and the dof was razor thin with many aberations. Also field of view doesnt change so much (in compare with two rayxon 250 stacked) - from 4mm to about 3mm. The best solution for very high magnification in my opinion is Raynox 250 + 250, or Raynox 250 + 150 (lil bit less magnification, but also lil bit better image quality). In this combinations is image quality still very good (for digital compact).

I stack lenses just using the snap-on reduction which came with the lens. But step-up and step-down ring reductions for safer mounting (snap-on isnt very good solution) are on the way ...

What a beautiful little spider. And an amazing photo too - love the colours and the details in the hairy bits.

That's a super shot Roman. Tis a pretty lil jumper too. Those Raynox lenses sure are nice.

Jeff - all arachnids have 8 legs, it's a distinguishing feature from the Insect families. Most spiders have 8 eyes, a tiny few have 6 or 4 eyes, but 8 is the norm. Remember, spiders are hunters. That said, most spiders have very poor eyesight, but incredibly accurate hearing. Every spider has millions of hairs on their bodies, and each hair is directly attached to a nerve. The slightest vibrations are enough to signal to the spider what its surroundings are like. Jumpers are one of the few species that have excellent eyesight. They are also very intelligent, and rather cute imho. They are my favourite subject to image.
