My 8 inch x 1000mm Sky-watcher Newtonian Reflector on an EQ5 mount is up for sale. It has been kept indoors between viewings.

The EQ5 is a very sturdy version which is much stronger than the generics. It has enclosed motors, double clamps on the steel legs, and has a long 20mm diameter counterweight rod. (usually EQ5’s are 18mm)
It has an illuminated polar-scope. (I don’t know the brand of the mount.)

It is in excellent working order and comes with a spare set of motors and hand-piece which are also in good working order.

The 8 inch telescope is the standard "blue" Sky-watcher model. All the optics are in excellent condition and are easy to collimate. The 2 inch focuser has a 1.25inch adapter. I bought this Newtonian secondhand at the Sirius Optics store I and believe it is now about 2 years old.
It is in almost new condition - no scratches etc. there is a small hole in the tube put there by the previous owner. This has been covered over and does not affect operation (see black square on picture)
The scope comes with two plossl eyepieces. 12.5mm & 20mm.

The scope provides bright clear views and has given us a lot of fun.

Price: (was $690 plus freight.)

now available as individual items

Scope: 345.00 [price drop: now $325 and includes some extras]
Mount: 310.00 [sold]

full kit: 655.00

(pickup is preferable as mount is heavy).

Reason for Selling: Too many Scopes, too little time.

Regarding Photography,
I don't do astrophotography so cant give you a definitive answer, But the mount holds a "drift" star in the cross-hairs satisfactorily and the 8" scope/eq5 is used by a number of IIS members for this purpose.

I would guess that it is a good short exposure package for someone wishing to learn this skill, but is obviously not of the precision that an expensive guided scope would have.

Freight to Melbourne depends on the method, but would be expensive due to the weight and bulk. I will attempt to weigh it if you if you are interested. feight companies will provide quotes based on weight and size.

For ultimate security "Pack and Send" will mold a foam shape around the scope, but it is probably cheaper to send it with regular freight companies and just insure it against damage.

Hi rider

I am interested if you still have this 'scope for sale.

If so, could you give me an estimate of the freight to Canberra 2612, please? I would prefer up-market freight with appropriate packing, but if possible, give me standard freight cost as well.

What form of payment would you prefer? I have a PayPal account or I can direct transfer to your account

Cheers

regarding the suitability of this scope as a imaging scope. its the top of the line for the bottom of the line if you know what i mean, if you want to start spending $1000 just on the scope then you start getting better! good deal if you ask me.

Would I be able to mount the scope on an AZ3 mount? If so I would like to make an offer for the scope.

Hi freespace,
You should be theoretically able to mount it, but I think it would be too big for an AZ3 to handle and would wobble.
If you want to get the views it is capable of, it really does deserve a tracking mount.

Drat. If the EQ5 doesn't sell I will take the whole package.

Hi All, I still need the room this scope takes up (new toy coming), so the price is now $325.00

I will now throw in a 35mm 2inch focal extension tube, and you get your choice of the standard skywatcher finderscope or a red dot finder.

The OTA comes with everything above the mount:
IE dovetail bar, rings, a focal extension tube and your choice of the above finders plus two plossl eyepieces. 12.5mm & 20mm.
