Thought I'd bump this thread seeing as Astrofest is only a few days away for us Perth people. I'll be there during the day with a stall selling my astrophotography products. Might hang around at night, wait and see how exhausting the day is.
Hope to see plenty of IIS people there

I am looking forward to it. Hopefully will get to know some of the society members a bit better. It is difficult for me to be involved with the society as much as I would like but this is one opportunity for me to pitch in and help out.

It was a great day though I could only stay until 4pm. Had a chance to see through a PST and a 90mm Coranado Ha filtered scope. Saw several prominances despite the early afternoon seeing. I think the Astrofest was a big success. I would have liked to see the Fred Watson talk but maybe next time. I did see him once before in 1998 at Coonabarabran. Very interesting speaker.

I was there although none form ASWA recognised me
The speeches were great:thumbsup:. I saw the ones about the Moon landing and the fireball watching in the Nullabour.
Also some kids kept on shooting some smoke rings:eyepop: at the Gingin Observatory stand.
From the moment I walked into the pavilion my frozen coke was screwing with the infrared video camera.
It was also good to see Roger at the Astrophoto stand :>

It was quite big! They think about 4000 people turned up. It was certainly quite full of people.
It was held at Curtin Stadium (bently/kensington campus).
It was open from 2pm until 10pm with viewing from about 7:30pm when the sunset. Solar and other outdoor activities prior to then, plus talks all day including a main one from Fred Whatson, and various astro stalls and displays inside. Was quite a good event , hard to live up to if repeated in years to come :)

Someone from ASWA (Ted I think) had a really good Hubble Space Telescope Book that Im tracking down over the internet. I saw it on the American Ebay for $400+ new:sadeyes:.
I hope its an over exaggeration on the price:help:.

Curtin... middle of the city, viewing would not have been that good eh? light poluted?
So is this an annual event?
Might have to arrange going to the next one.

Yes... but the event is more about encouraging people to become involved than "serious deep space viewing", so I think the location is appropriate. 99% of kids only want to see the moon and planets.
I think the answer to that is "time will tell". I don't know. I think they put a lot of effort in to this one due to IYA. Getting equal funding for another might be hard.
