The OFFICIALS at the Bathurst race have decided on a STRICT!!!!!!!!! Alcohol limit of wait for it..................... 4Litres of Wine per person per day and a little more reasonable 24 cans of beer per person per day. I don't know about you but I don't think I would even remember the race if I drank that much every day of the race.:P:rofl::rofl::rofl:

4ltr of wine AND 24 cans of beer!!!
You should never mix your drinks or there'll be much driving of the old porcelain bus ;)
Quite partial to a crisp chardonnay or two up on the Mountain, are they?:rofl:

Sad to say that might (were it enforced) make some yobbos cut back. Really, that amount would be a pretty solid effort for a long weekend.
If someone did drink like that how many days would it be before they were fit to drive? It's not just the intoxication. They wouldn't be fit to drive whilst hungover. Can you imagine what the hangover would do to their judgment, skill and, in particular, concentration? The coppers ought to impound their cars for a week and only hand them back when they pass a blood test.
Was that meant to be a restriction?
Sounds more like a liver-intoxicating challenge.
Another parody of leadership that, unlike the alcohol, is without strength!
Regards, Rob.
I can just see them all sitting up there with their 4 litres of Claret every day.
I'd be lucky to get through 4 glasses of that paint stripper in a day.
Cheers

Me thinks my drinking days be over. That amount of booze is what I now drink in a decade !Personally, I would rather spend that booze money on astro toys. Quick calculation-that amount of booze every day would cost about 15k per year - serious toy money.Mind you, with that amount of alcohol in the system, you would be seeing a hell of a lot of "fuzzies"
Being a bathurst local, the police presence is unbelievable. Its hard to get around town without being pulled over. I have actually been working at the bathurst police station this week and the local police are doing a great job and keeping out of the way of locals trying to work, and dealing with the riff raff, but the police ring ins with attitude from other areas are a pain and make life difficult for everybody especially for locals.
On any of the highways around Bathurst at the moment you would pass a police car evey 10k's. On race week I usually get breath tested 3 times each year.
They confiscate truck loads of alcohol each year at the entry to the track.... I'd love to know where it all goes.

In the words of the late Brockie, I'd "give it a white hot go!"
Would end up with a whole bunch of fail though

I suspect that was supposed '4 liters of wine OR a slab' - I think that's what I heard elsewhere. Still, I've young, big, fit, and very well trained drinkers take on a slab and fail miserably.

Hate to tell you this Warren, the only thing Holden about those things is the badge.
Silhouette racing, no more, no less, might as well be NASCAR.

Who remembers when the Mini won the Race that was great. Cant remember what year it was had to be in the 70's. I remember when I was in school when it was the on the Friday before the race weekend all the boys and some girls at our school would take our matchbox cars to school and run the cars down our schools front footpath that ran from the front gate down to the parade ground and the car that got there first were and the owner were hero's to the whole rest of the day.:party2:

... is a Commodore and you can see that the only Holden panel is the side one, but not the bottom section of the side one. All outer panels attach to this, most by pop rivet, I think the guards are fiberglass on the front but all the other parts are steel (or were last year). Its good racing though, especially when Ford fails.... beautifull skys out that way as well, what planet is on the horizon at about 5/6am ish?

They once asked Whingemug what his worst job ever was and he replied "Driving a Holden!" Cant wait to see him in a Holden next year!!:rofl::rofl:
It's not silhouette racing yet, it is parody, and is still heavily tied into brand name sales. Nascar is still alot different.;)

Try getting one of the rear doors of a "Commodore" V8 supercar to fit the road going version, they are shorter. They all run Hollinger gearboxes, Ford 9" diffs, the engines are made in the US, as you can see the chassis is not factory standard, the list goes on. The one thing they aren't are Fords or Holdens.
It's good racing, though Bathurst is spoiled by the safety car interventions, but I don't buy into the red V blue BS that goes on. I actually follow a driver or team rather than the vague notion that they drive something similar to a road car. None of them drive Alfas anyway, so I really have no manufacturer alliance.
Cheers

The Holden Ford rivalry runs deep for this race it has since I can remember it is hard to stop seeing it in this way even if they are not really the same anymore its the romantics of it lets face we humans can ignore the obvious sometimes but you are talking about a lifetime of going for one over the other its in our blood.

Minis won Bathurst in 1966. In fact they had 9 of the top 10 places. The next year Ford had the GTHO Falcon - where HO stands for 'handling option' (or so I've been told). Once the big cars could also stop and turn the days of the mini were over.

The one I remember was when the mini came around the last bend and was able to just hold on against a bigger car it cant have been 1966 as I was born in 1965 and I remember watching it on TV. But that was interesting about the 9 of 10 top places!

Advertising hype, driving a GTHO is like trying to navigate the Queen Mary, a testament to the guys who drove them! These were the days when the drivers really had to earn a race win.

Well I was there. Just got back to Melbourne at 8pm tonight.
I survived a "bloody cold" Bathurst. Up on top of the mountain. (Sulman)
The alcohol limit was 24 cans per man per day, however, the letter that was sent to campers wasn't clear enough, as I found out.
When I got checked at the security gate, out of 3 slabs and 2 casks of wine, 1 slab and 1 cask of wine was taken off me (Me and the Mrs went). Due to the fact of "per day", they made you take 1 slab each, then when you ran out, come back the next day and collect your others lab from the gate (800 metres away down the mountain).
In my eyes, it wasn't clear enough as many people got caught out.
1752km's travelled, to see 161 laps raced, partied most nights (respectfully), got caught in the middle of a cricket game with the coppers (haha), and just such an amazing event to see everyone chewing fingernails it was just that close. I am a Ford boy, but to see the Holden boys loose it too and chew fingers off, was just great...hahaha.
Now who in their right mind goes camping when it's 0 degrees overnight?
Bloody cold. And bloody good at the same time.
