ngc 7793 - A ROAD LESS TRAVELLED

Goaded into activity by Forum friends, I turned my little 8" Newt and new QHY8 onto NGC 7793 tonight to see what the limits were. Here are some of the built-in limits - no Flats. My new LightBox is in the post. So what we have is 6 x 20 minute light subs with a QHY8 at Gain1; Offset 110 with off-axis guiding and PHD - all Remote Desktopp'd back to the house.
I wanted to see how far I could push guiding and what the limits of resolution were for the GSo newtonian.
As far as processing goes, it is just a succession of Levels and Curves repeated several times to bring out detail.
Anyway. Here is a crop from the image - crop to avoid the obvious consequences of not having any flats to apply. But this time next week will be a different story - I hope.

That's actually not bad Peter, a nice galaxy for some extra focal length to shoot. Glad to hear the scope/camera network is working well :thumbsup:

What type of of light box is coming?

It one that Peter (Exfso) made for me based on measurements and photos I sent. Price is good and, judging by the photos from the delivery ward that he sent me in advance of delivery, the construction looks excellent.

Nice image Peter, All the things you left out will go a long way to making the image better. Good to see you have your RD working well. I have been doing it for a couple of years now and it makes the really cold nights quite bareable.
You might want to just check your focus but all up a nice galaxy.

It looks like there might be a slight touch of field rotation going on in that pic.. the stars in the upper right hand side of frame look nice and round where as the ones down the left side look a little eggy.. Either the camera wasn't dead square in the focuser or the polar alignment is out by a little. It doesnt take much when you're running 20 minute subs to encounter field rotation, the alignment is fairly critical at that kind of exposure length..
