Moon Pictures from Sydney Star Gazer

I picked up a Celestron 130SLT reflector telescope in March 09 and since then have been picking up various bits and pieces for the telescope.

Being able to do some serious astronomy viewing was now possible but I still wanted to be able to take pictures through the telescope.

So I now have that ability...... just a pity that weather conditions recently have not been so great.

But I do have a few pictures and they are attached here.

This week I have also started my astronomy blog where I am posting images and giving daily viewing conditions for Sydney amateur astronomers..... this I hope helps give people an idea on possible viewing conditions that night... or will it be raining again...or will we be having more sand storms.

Lots of detail in there!!

I ran number 3 through, a noise reduction and did a slight sharpness adjust... I hope you don't mind, turned out alright, I think.

No.....don't mind at all.......

When I was taking these pictures I was trying to work out why there was a single spot of light all on it's own on the moon. The moon was almost full so I had a lot of light coming through the scope so I tried one of those light filters. That is what has caused the issues with so much grain in the picture.

The pictures I have taken so far have been taken in not the best of conditions. Mainly being a couple of kilometers away from the bright city lights...... (too many people forgetting to turn off the lights in the city when they leave work ) and also the red dust storms did not help.

I also took these pictures by simply pointing a digital camera I was holding down the lense of the telescope which was not ideal as I had to contend with hand and telescope movement as well.

Since these pictures were taken I have now added a camera mount to the telescope which will hopefully produce better pictures. Now I just have to wait for the weather to improve so I can try the camera mount out.

I don't like your chances..... at the moment the cloud stretches from port McQuarie down to Melbourne and west out to the Blue Mountains.

Not looking like clearing any time soon.
