What Happened to Spring?

Hi All, :)

35 C in August and several days of 30 C in Sep. Brisbane has leapt from winter to summer. Along with that the summer crawlies are out. Half an hour ago I was watering the mango trees.

Snake, :eyepop:a little one, made for cover in the rainforest. I think, hope? It was just a common tree snake. Harmless. Tried to get a photo but the head was covered in the grass.:P

Last year we had a decent sized Carpet Python and these little tree snakes keep popping up through the warmer temperatures of November. First time for a sighting in early Oct.:eyepop: The first ones of the season always gives me a bit of a jump.:scared:

We've had one red belly, a brown and a couple of pythons in the last month or so.
I'm always reminding the kids to watch out for them when they go down to the creek. Got to keep the grass trimmed right back from the paths so they can see them in time.
It's going to be a scorcher this Summer.

Yes a scorcher. I reckon you're not far wrong. we're getting a new pool installed. Looking forward to it for christmas or well before.

Red Bellied Blacks and a Brown. Ouch :eyepop:that's a lot already.

Lately We have gone back to winter after a bit of summer here in NZ. The last few days here have been wet and cold. sometimes we get summer and winter in one day. It can be very changable as you know.

one thing we haven't got is all your (crawlies) but neither do we get your mango trees here in the south.

Sounds like you will get a lot of use out of your new pool.

NZ's cold weather was very real while we were there. Now, back in Brisbane it seems that NZ cold was a long ago, distant and dark memory.
Particularly so with the dry dusty conditions we've been having.

Yes the pool will be intensively employed.

Oh yes they are definitely out. I've swerved to miss a brown/tiapan (wasn't stopping to check) the other day, well over 2 meters long and more than thumb/forefinger ring thick. The car in front had startled it and it had reared up as I passed. I hardly had to look down to see it as it passed my window. Big bugger. Seen a couple of very large carpets, a beautiful 4 ft RBB, couple of yellow face whips and a well fed Keelback in my dam.

I think that the good wet we had may have been conducive to good snake breeding conditions. I know that rodent numbers were up and they started earlier than most years.:thumbsup:

The snakes appear to be following suit.:shrug:

My kitty kat regularly brings me breakfast in the form of a dead rat or mouse. And if she's gone and eaten too many herself, there's always a pile of regurgitated meeces on the floor to have to clean up. ewwww

Oh, I don't know.....
It's the surprise ones that you skid on first thing in the morning that turn my tummy.

I live in suburbia and have had 4 snakes in my yard so far this year, and seen 5 others down at the local lake/river.. had 4 coastal carpet pythons in the yard, varying in size from 8ft long down to 2.5ft... the 8 footer was a handful to catch and relocate down to the river... but she was very calm.. just a lot stronger than I am.. :)

Down at the river I've seen 2x browns mid way through their courtship, a red bellied black, a green tree python and a rough scaled python... All of which were beautiful animals...

My pet lizards and snakes have all come out of hibernation now.. a good sign that its summer time! :)

Oh yes indeedy,
Ours likes rabbits. But only the heads. The rest she leaves for us. Mmmmn.
Last year she bought in 3 live Tiger snakes:scared: and presented them to me.
Thank goodness for welders gloves!

Unusually cold down here, today was 16 warmer than it has been, we have had lots of rain, so much rain that the farmers are having difficulty harvesting crops, sowing and ploughing is out of the question.

My kat has a snake phobia. You know when there's one around because she'll jump at anything. She'll only go outside when forced to by hydraulic pressure.:lol:
