Here we go, this is the first colour image from Monday night. The raw data was grabbed at 3am, when mars was just 31 degrees in altitude... says something about how still the air was in that valley of snakes.

Equipment:

10" f/6 newtonian with 5x powermate and extension tubes for effective fl around 10m.
Tru-Tek filter wheel, Dragonfly Express monochrome camera.
stacked approx 1400 frames in each of R,G,B

regards, Bird

Very nice image and now I think that I need an extension tube. I wondered how you got such good image scale. You have the best in the southern hemisphere congratulations.

well done mate!

A lot of time and effort on your behalf has been duly rewarded.

That time and effort i am talking about is giving up your time to show us your tricks of the trade, answering all of our questions and sharing your excitement whilst imaging.

Congrats!!!

Now where is the hi res version???????

Oh well, I replaced the original image with a slightly better one, but it's still the same size...lol

Oh man,

That's an awesome shot !
There really isn't much I can add to what others have said except-

A bird in Snake Valley is worth two in the bush......

Well done.

Gotta love this one! perfectly processed with subtle detail much like - but going beyond - the eyepiece experience! Wouldn't mind learning a bit more about your camera, been thinking of going tri-colour filter monochrome for a while...
cheers,
Robert T

That's terrific Bird!! Was well worth staying up until sunrise.

I won't pick on you for using EP's as I was doing it with you. I hope your Saturn shots come out good considering it was daylight when you finished capturing.

It makes me feel all warm & fuzzy seeing the photographic results of doing the Camp! ;)

Okay, here's another one - taken about an hour earlier. This time I did a bit of resampling so the image is a bit larger than the originals.

With this new pair of images, I went up close to the monitor looking past the images and I got an almost stereoscopic 3d view.

Awesome bird.

Thanks again.

Wow, incredible shots Bird. I was looking forward to seeing these, after the eyepiece view I was getting I knew you would've been getting some good data.

Congrats on an excellent result, and worth the 3 nights of clouds before it!

I have just loaded this newest image into photoshop, magnified it 3 times, the detail is still tight and the damn thing takes up half my screen!!!!!!

Bird can i interest you in a mitchell 4x resample??????

DP, I'd love to - but you know what? Registax has a bug and crashes if you try to resample FITS format images...

I store them in FITS format cause they're 16 bit monochrome, if I convert back to BMP then I go back to 8 bit monochrome :-(

Cor has known about this bug for a couple of months, maybe it'll get fixed sometime...

until then, I have to use ppmcentre to do my resampling...

ppmcentre????, i have heard the author of that is a top bloke!!

no problems about resample, by the way, where can i get latest ppmcentre that we were chatting about?

umm, it's only on my pc at the moment...I have to finish a few bits of it before I release it. Some things don't work properly just yet...

All good things come to those who wait...
