In Perth there's two astronomical societies/groups

ASWA -http://aswa.info/ very active

Monthly general meeting
Monthly "Club Night", less formal gathering
Monthly "How" workshops at the society's observatory
Two Deep sky meets monthly
A Lunar viewing night
Public viewing nights and caters for requests from schools/groups etc
Yahoo group
Two astro-camps a year to a rural location

AGWA- http://www.btow.com.au/agwa.shtml

Affiliated with BTOW

The Perth metro area is only serviced by one dedicated shop and that's BTOW, like with anything its best to shop around and there's a number of interstate stores that are good to deal with. There's a number of camera stores dotted through the city that has modest equipment but there is one that has a surprising large selling area http://www.camera-land.com.au/Website/pages/contact.html that includes Celestron Nexstar SCTs etc to skywatcher brand scopes , staff arnt to knowledgeable but there's opportunities to save when they have a floor sale to clear demo gear.

The state funded observatory located just out from Perth offers tours and viewing nights {if your keen you can volunteer to help with these nights to}, well worth the visit .... http://www.wa.gov.au/perthobs/.

The private Golden Grove observatory has public viewing nights which i think can be organised through the AWGA/BTOW group

Do you mind, HANK _B_ MARVIN is the correct title, he has lived over there for quite a long time, him and Cliff Richard get together when Cliff is over here.
There is also The Southern Cross Cosmos Centre and Observatory near GinGin eighty Kms north of Perth, it is part of the Gravitational wave experimental Telescope (I think it is classed as a Telescope).
Tony you should enjoy yourself over in WA, I will be their for Christmas.astroron
